Hey everybody!  First, apologies to start with.  The last forum I joined I got kicked off of for an unknown reason...they called me a troll and wouldn't let me log back on.

I'm doing "construction" in the basement.  I plan on installing a home theater, roughly 8x12 ft.  This is going to be ground up (or, should I say, slab up?).  I plan on getting 10 movie theater seats (eBay) and installing a fairly large flat panel TV, 50"+?.  I am not an audiophile by any stretch.  I'm wondering what sort of things should I be on the lookout for.  I have several constraints.  Heating and return ducts are going to limit ceiling to about 7+ feet afet subfloor.  Basics:  Should I wire walls for speakers?  Placement?  Slope of floor for theater seats?  Subwoofer?  Total power drain, can I hook this sucker up to one line?  Dehumidifyer? Should I go with laminate floor and painted walls or fabric covered and carpeted?  As you can see, I HAVE NO CLUE!

We have another section, "Members Home Theaters and HT Projects" that is specifically geared to questions about building dedicated home theater rooms.  The "Basics" area is mostly for people new to the whole concept of home theater and are just buying their first surround sound system, HDTV or DVD/Blu Ray player.  You might want to ask a moderator to move your post to the area where the HT building experts hang out.

Welcome to the HTF!
