Best video cable type for home made med. runs

I'm sure this info is in a hundred threads, but I can't seem to ferret it out on search terms.

Simply put, I want to know the best video cabling, home terminated, for running 50-100 feet occasionally next to power for a couple inches. I will be converting connector types in the end, so I'm looking for advice on mitigating signal loss first, ease of connector assembly second.

Here are some search terms to make it easier to find later:
video signal loss, video signal noise, video connector assembly, long video cable run, best video cabling, video cable preference.

Thanks

I use RG-56 and RG-6. Both work fine for 100ft runs.

This question is really better suited to the "Members Home Theater Projects" section, which is dedicated to constructing home theater rooms and related topics. The "Basics" section is really geared more towards people just getting their first HDTV or first surround sound system. You might want to ask one of the moderators to move it for you.

I'm not having much luck figuring out how to do that, but I 'reported' this thread with a request to move and we'll see what happens.

Thanks,

This may be stupid, but is it feasible to use Cat 5 for video?

I've seen some baluns that convert component or HDMI to 1 or 2 CAT-5 cables.  But the baluns cost $100 to $250 each (you need 1 on each end of the cable).  It is not cost effective.  They may be cheaper now but no where close to coax cable.
