Just watched '24' Season one for the first time ever...

Holy shit what a show!

It was one of the most exhilerating and red-hot seasons of any show i've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. I simply could not stop, I had to know what happened next, who kidnapped Kim and Terry and why? Would Jack get to them in time? Who wants Sen. Palmer dead?

The character of Jack Bauer quickly won me over and I found myself rooting for his exploits in the same way I root for John McClane in the Die Hard series or Indiana Jones. As he worked his way through a seemingly never ending sea of scumbags I was cheering him!

The real-time format sucked me in and every moment of every episode was infused with an urgency that I rarely get from movies let alone TV shows, with each tick of that ominous yellow digital clock the tension mounted reaching an almost fever pitch leading up to it's breathless, and heartbreaking, final hour. No episode or moment was wasted, it maintained the same level of excellence throughout which I thought impossible before, even my most favorite shows have a dud here and there, this did not.

The acting, production design, directing, writing, you name it, were all of the utmost quality.

I know i'm late to this party but i'm here now and you can bet your arse that i'm here to stay, I can't wait to get season two and watch Bauer and co. get relentlessly shit on for another day.

In the immortal words of John McClane "welcome to the party, pal".

Seriously, though, that's the exact same thing that happened to me when I watched Season 1 on DVD. I think I finished the whole season in like 3 days. It's the most addictive show I've ever watched and you're in for some incredible follow-up seasons. Just skip season 6 and you'll be fine.

Season 6 no good?

It took me 4 days to watch the whole season, if it weren't for that annoying little thing called a job I would have watched it all in one day.

Should get discs 1 & 2 of season 2 tomorrow, hell i'm temped to say the hell with Netflix and just buy seasons 1 & 2 lol.

Re: Just watched '24' Season one for the first time ever...

I own the first 5 seasons on DVD and season 7 on Blu-Ray. Notice how season 6 is nowhere to be found there?

I think you're going to enjoy seasons 2, 4 and 5 as much if not more than season 1. Season 3 is good, but not quite up to the level of those other years. Season 7 has perhaps the strongest start of any season of the show, but the final 7 or 8 episodes are a little disappointing. You'll be absolutely blown away by how good it is up to that point, though.

Bottom line: you've got a fun ride ahead of you watching all these seasons.

I've never seen the show, but you're about to become acquainted with actress Laura Harris in season 2. Just remember that I saw her first.

Re: Just watched '24' Season one for the first time ever...

My wife can't tolerate tension and would walk out of the room after about 15 minutes of 24 being on during S1. By S5 not only was she watching it with me, but she was watching it WITHOUT me (working nights I slept through it occasionally and watched it later). I knew she was hooked when she came to wake me up saying "Oh my god, you have to watch 24... oh my god..."

It has some great moments but the not-so-great and bad moments out number them. I do think if you're watching it marathon-style on DVD, S6 plays better than it did watching one episode a week on TV because you move pretty quickly past the weak episodes.

It's a little early but after S6, comes a telemovie called Redemption which is the prequel for S7.

I enjoyed S1 for the most part, but there were a number of inconsistencies in character behavior and plot that frustrated me to no end. I haven't yet started S2, though it and S3 have sat on my shelf, waiting, for several years (both purchased blind before I'd watched S1).

I make no promises, Greg.

I remember the previews for that movie a few months back, it came right to DVD just days after airing if i'm not mistaken.

I got in discs one and two of season 2 today and can't wait to get started.

The first 2/3 of S2 have some of the best and most tense episodes of the entire series. And it has the most badass line in the history of the show,

John, I agree. I watched it on DVD about three years ago and was knocked out. Up there with the best single seasons of TV. I'm no on S4 of DVD and have enjoyed them all so far. I currently enjoy watching them at the gym, ripped to my iPod.

S2 got flack for some silliness with Kim, but I had no troubles with it. I thought it was nearly as good as S1.

Re: Just watched '24' Season one for the first time ever...

Damn, I just got through episode 3 and it was amazing! Jack soooo wanted to nail those assholes for blowing up CTU, you could see it seething in his eyes.

He got tougher in the past months, he took that dude out like nothing and then...hacksaw.

Poor Kim, trouble sticks to that girl like stink on shit lol. It seems she can't walk from point A to point B without getting either kidnapped or have someone chase her. She goes to CTU because she's sure she'll be safe there but nope, sorry, there's a bomb in the building lol.

Greg, is Laura Harris the new girl that works with Tony at CTU? Your right, she is freakin' cute!

Laura Harris is the blond girl (Marie Warner) who is getting married. Back up off Michelle though, that's my girl.

She's Daisy to me as well --- though since then I've caught her earlier work in The Outer Limits (as an Android Mona Lisa 37x) and a 1994 Highlander episode. Most recently I saw her in a 'Poltergeist: The Legacy' episode on Chiller Channel.

She is listed in an even earlier episode of the Outer Limits that I remember the plot since it was a remake of an Original Series episode, but I don't remember her character.

She was also in the movie The Faculty with pre-Frodo Elijah Wood.

Greg, about your girl, you can have her, she's a raving fucking lunatic lol.

Season two is a scorcher so far! I'm at the 9pm hour (day started at 8am for those that don't remember) and sooooo much has happened.

One thing that's been nagging me since season one, how the hell does a nice, kind and decent man like Palmer wind marrying such a freeze-ice-on-her-ass, manipulative and power-mad bitch like Sherry?

Huh.  So, does she blow people away?  On Dead Like Me, she just talked about all the leading men she'd blown.

She killed some people, yeah (including her fiance'), and she almost killed her own sister.

Just watched episode '10 pm - 11pm' and it had me weeping, even though I knew that something would intervene to save Jack from flying the plane to it's deadly destination I still teared up during his goodbyes to Kim, and I teared up again at George's ultimate sacrifice.

Hard to believe that a show this utterly fantastic has been on the air for 8 freakin' years and i'm just now watching it!

After all this time, that episode is still my favorite and Mason is still one of my favorite characters. If you had told me that the bomb would detonate when the season started, I'd have said you were crazy.

I can see why, Travis, it was heartbreaking and horrifying. Poor George was starting to look like Jeff Goldblume in The Fly by that time and I knew when he showed up at the airfield that he would somehow be the one to fly the plane.

Kim, well, she's up to her neck in shit as usual lol.

I'm on S4 now, and the show just keeps going! S1 is still my favorite, because it was so fresh and remarkable. My wife has watched all 8 seasons and tells me it slumped for a season or two, but the latest season was top notch.

I'm glad that I skipped it and am catching up with it on DVD, it would absolutely KILL me to have to wait a whole week to se the next hour! Besides, this show DEMANDS to be watched continuously.

Hmm, late to the thread but not to 24!!

Another aspect of this series is it has introduced some of the all time most hate-able characters ever.  To this day I still want to slug the actress Penny Johnson Jerald who played Sherrie Palmer.

Seriously John you have many hours of fun in store for you.  This past season has been the first one that I watched as it aired (sort of anyway - DVR'ed it), the rest I waited until the box set came out and my wife and I would see how quick we could get through the season by watching 3-4 episodes on Friday nights.  Many was the time where I could not fall asleep as I was too pumped up over the show...

It takes 52 pounds of pressure to rupture an eyeball...

I'm probably in the minority but I actually like watching 24 (or any serialized show) week to week. It builds the suspense for me. Plus, I like BSing with friends about it during the week. That being said, I'm sure the ability to watch one episode after another really gives the show a rollcoaster flow.

It really does, Travis, it feels like one long and wild ride that you just don't want to get off of.

I'm starting to get the feeling that no female on this show can be trusted lol, Nina was a psychotic traitor, Sherry and Emperor Palpatine have lots in common and Melanie is a brainwashed nutjob. I just have to laugh now when Kim gets into trouble, she gets into it so often that it's beginning to border on self parody lol. But I still love it!

Jack's the man, though, he's the most put-upon and abused hero since Ash in the Evil Dead series and it's amazing fun to follow along with him, i'm surprised he doesn't just collapse from sheer exhaustion lol.

That episode had me crying too and I'm not one who cries easily.
