Help with connecting upstairs/downstairs

Hello all. I have a question I hope someone can help with.

I have upstairs in my house an AV Receiver, connected to cable, speakers , etc, as well as to a PC with all of my music on it. I have downstairs another receiver connected to in-wall speakers.

Is there a way to get the music that is playing on the PC to also play on the downstairs receiver, without running wires through the walls?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Help with connecting upstairs/downstairs

Assuming you have a wireless home network and who doesn't these days, it is easy. The LINKSYS WMB54G Wireless-G Music Bridge is one of many wireless media players that will stream music from a PC. Other options may include your DVD player, satellite receiver and TiVo. My DirecTV HR20 and HR22 high def receivers will stream music on my network. I just need to purchase a wireless access point for them.

Re: Help with connecting upstairs/downstairs

Thanks Robert. I'm a little concerned about the number of negative reviews on Amazon for the Linksys product. I have DirecTV HD receiver; I wonder if there is a connection for a network card.

Re: Help with connecting upstairs/downstairs

I have the HR20 and HR22 DirecTV HD DVR's and both have RJ-45 plugs (ethernet) in the back. All you have to do is get a wireless access point and plug it in. I've been looking at a wireless print server at Newegg that also has 4 ethernet jacks. I could plug in both of my D* receivers as well as a couple of other things.

Re: Help with connecting upstairs/downstairs

Thanks again for the info.

OK, I have checked my DirecTV HD receiver; it has an ethernet port in the back, and a USB port. If I connect a wireless access point to either of these connections, would I be able to stream music from my PC through it?

I don't think the USB supports anything at this point. You can find what your receiver supports at DBS Talk dot com. That is a site dedicated to satellite systems. Nice guys. I hang out there from time to time.
