New setup - need advice

I am looking to purchase a surround sound system to go with my Sony 52" LCD tv and Sony Bluray player in my living room. I am looking into buying a refurbished sony STR-DG920 receiver from sony's website for $479.99:

STR-DG920 | REFURBISHED - Home Theater A/V Receiver (7.1 Channel) | Sony | SonyStyle USA

Any thoughts on this receiver? I would like to stick with a sony receiver to take advantage of the bravia sync.

Also, I need to pick a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers with subwoofer to go along with this set up. I would like to buy a packaged set for around $600. Does anyone have experience with a 5.1 surround sound speaker set hooked up to the sony STR-DG920 receiver?

Thanks in advance.

Re: New setup - need advice

Why the need for Bravia Synch?

Just get a universal remote control and you can still press one button to control most activities and you're not tied to a specific brand. I think you can do better than that receiver.

If I was looking for a sub $500 receiver, I'd buy THIS RECEIVER. I have no affiliation with that seller, but he sells a lot of gear to avs members and he's an authorized Pioneer dealer (just shoot him and Email or give him a call).

As for speakers,

THIS IS WHAT I'D GET

$480 kind of high for refurbished and last year's model. In that range I think Onkyo 607 has the most inputs + features. Agree with Kevin, get a Logitech Harmony >>> Bravia sync.

Speaker sets, for that range also consider the HSU Research Performance 2 set.
