Re: NEW Paul Newman Collection from FOX....
Is this a wish on your part or do you have an actual link to this release?

I wouldn't touch that boxset as it appears to be nothing more than a collection of repackaging previously released titles.

Re: NEW Paul Newman Collection from FOX....
Exodus again in a non-anamorphic edition without the intermission is something I can pass. This appears just a re-release of previous transfers. 17 discs with 13 movies also means the two disc versions of The Hustler, Towering Inferno, The Verdict, and Butch Cassidy will be included.
Poor Fox has just lost it's way with a repackaged set of same old transfers (most anamorphic but Exodus not) including the same old extras if any (none on Exodus and a couple of others),
A long fall from the days of Ford At Fox.
You might read in to this that I am disappointed that Exodus is not getting a new transfer and giving the attention it deservers, will I am, but a couple of other films could use some help, but most are transfers not more than four years old so they will be good for the person that does not have them, but it would be more frugal to purchase those individually.

If it is, it is one of the most abysmal of the MGM releases, and should be an embarrassment for Fox.

Simple, the just released re-packaging of Hair and Taking of the Pelham 123 used the same non-anamorphic transfer. Unfortunately, this Paul Newman collection is just a re-packaging of previously released films. Exodus does deserve a new transfer and extras, this time it is not going to have it. Also MGM would be the one to do the new transfer since it is a UA film and they have a history of just releasing older transfers more so than Fox.
Fox has made it clear that they are not going to release any older films not previously released nor any new transfers of older films for the rest of 2009. Diary of Ann Frank was the last one this year.

Given the reported financial situation at MGM, it's unlikely that they would spend anything on upgraded transfers.

Re: NEW Paul Newman Collection from FOX....
It's so unfortunate that many lesser films (e.g. car-crash-shoot-em-up types) get such lavish treatment and films that I want (e.g. Exodus) get such awful transfers. The existing letterbox Exodus DVD is terrible. Somewhat OT, so is the Universal/Image P&S transfer of The Seven Percent Solution, which is at least a decade old now.
It's hard to get enthusiastic for Blu-Ray when you can't even get decent SD DVDs for films you want.
