ONKYO SR507 vs. YAMAHA RX-V465... and other noob questions!

I could really use some help figuring out a decent set-up. I've been reading for a while and still pretty confused. My set up:

50" Samsung 720p Plasma
Main Speakers: 2 Unknown model Mission floor speakers (150W/channel I believe)
Satellite: Polk M10 (Newegg.com - Polk Audio M10 Two-way bookshelf loudspeaker black Pair)
Center: Logitech X-540 (Amazon.com: Logitech 970223-0403 X-540 5.1 Speaker System (Black): Electronics) - using center only, the rest of the speakers for office

I'll be connecting an HDMI cable box, HDMI XBox, and an analog Wii. Possibly a computer a little later on (DVI??).

My research has led me to these two receivers:
ONKYO SR507 (Newegg.com - ONKYO TX-SR507 5.1-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver)
YAMAHA RX-V465 (Newegg.com - YAMAHA RX-V465 5.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver)

I'm particularly concerned with audio working with HDMI and input being up-converted to HDMI. And of course quality of sound. Which one of these is better?

Also got a bunch of noob questions, help me out if you can...
- My speakers are kinda cobbled together - will they sound somewhat respectable together? Suggestions?
- The Mission speakers have two sets of R/L inputs each. One is labeled "HF", the other "LF" and they are bridged together. What do I do with these?
- The Mission inputs are weird, its like a hollow bolt and a cap with a center hole that screws on top (not sure if that made any sense...) What's the correct way to connect to these?

Thanks!

Between the two receivers, I like the Onkyo.

The fronts (l/r/c) should be from the same company and be designed to work together. Otherwise, the sound panning from left to right will sound different in the middle. Look up "timbre match".

Do nothing (leave the bridge in place). This is for bi-amping and is usually not recommended.

That is the standard connector on good speakers. Best way to connect is feed the bare speaker wire through the hole (horizontally) and tighten it down with the cap you described. The hole on top is for banana plugs, which are another option but not necessary.

Audio works with HDMI with both those receivers. Sound quality should be toss-up, doubt you'd be able to tell a difference. Neither offers upconversion of other signal types to HDMI (feature found on more expensive models), which I usually don't recommend anyway. Connect all video types used to the TV, get a universal remote if you want to simplify switching.

Normally you want center speaker matched to the fronts so sound doesn't change as it pans across. Perhaps you should just try "phantom center", no center speaker if you can't get a matching Mission. Works fine if you sit near the center.

Sorry. Reading the description at NewEgg makes it seem (at least to me) like it is passthru only...

Re: ONKYO SR507 vs. YAMAHA RX-V465... and other noob questions!

Thanks for the help guys.

-Any recommendations on a decently-priced sub to match the setup?

-As far as the bi-amp inputs on the speakers, do I only connect to the "HF" or the "LF" bank of inputs?

- Define "decently priced"

- It doesn't matter with the bridge there, from an electric circuit point of view they are the same.

Like Stephen said, how far do you want to go, what's your budget.
