Connecting Explorer 3250HD cable box to Yamaha RX-V1500?

I currently have the Yamaha RX-V1500 AV Receiver and am looking to upgrade to HDTV with the Explorer 3250HD cable box.

On the back of the receiver there is a DTV input that accepts component video cables. Can I connect the Explorer 3250HD cable box to the receiver using the DTV input or do am I looking at having to upgrade my receiver?

What are my connection options in general between the TV, Yamaha RX-V1500 AV Receiver and the Explorer 3250HD cable box?

Re: Connecting Explorer 3250HD cable box to Yamaha RX-V1500?

For sound, use either coax or optical digital from the cable box to receiver.

For video, you can run component or DVI/HDMI (depending on what connectors are on the box + TV) direct to the TV. *Or*, you can run component to the receiver and component from the receiver to the TV. The second way is useful if your TV has limited component inputs & you have more than one component source (say a DVD or game console). Also you won't have to switch the TV input, just the receiver input.

While you're upgrading, you should consider getting a DVR model so you can record, rather than just a plain cable box. A bit costly but worth it IMO. TivoHD is also good, high upfront cost but cheaper than renting in long run.
