Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Hello. I am trying to hook up my 22" Dell widescreen monitor to my Directv HD DVR, but I'm not having any luck. I have a converter that converts the DVI to HDMI, but it isn't working, just a blank screen. Any ideas out there?

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Greetings

Is the monitor HDCP compliant? If not ... then no image.

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Is there any way of knowing if it is compliant (besides hooking it up and not getting a picture)? Are there any converters you can attach to it that will make it compliant?

What does the manual say?

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Unfortunately I have no manual, so I wouldn't know. I tried to look up some information on it, but found nothing. It says it can display HD, but I don't know if that means anything at all or not. It is a Dell 2208WFP. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

The only option I'm aware of is to convert the HDMI signal to analog for the monitor (VGA input) via a converter made by HDFury.

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Dell UltraSharp 2208WFP looks to be HDCP compliant.

I'm not why you don't have a picture -- bad DVI/HDMI connector? bad HDMI connection? Is there a setting or a toggle switch on the monitor to switch to DVI/digital input?

Try variations of turning off both units -- turn on monitor then DirecTV and then reverse? I think all video outputs of the DirecTV are active simultaneously, but try disconnecting all video except the HDMi just to make sure.

You might also ask over on the dbstalk.com forum and see if someone has a similar setup.

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

Manual is available online on Dell web site. Looks like it is HDCP compliant. Are you getting any error messages on the monitor when you hit the source select button to select the DVI? Try different output resolutions on the DVR also, maybe try different HDMI->DVI cable.

Re: Can I get tv signals though my monitor?

What resolution do you have the DVR set to output? Try 720p.
