Help criticism

It seems clear to me that this forum is not the place for people like me, asomeone with a modest budget who wants to replace an old monitor with a new one, and at the same time replace the tuner that drives it.

I left a help request, and after several days (25 reads, no response) I noticed a similar request that had 141 reads and 11 responses. The difference, the requester, who obviously had little understanding of what he was doing, mentioned "best" and obviously had a high budget.

I guess I'll go to a less elite site that is willing to help regardless of budget.

Enoch,

Welcome to Home Theater Forum.

I can vouch for the members of this forum that none of us
feel we are above anyone with a modest budget. As a matter
of fact, you'll probably find far more elite minded individuals on
other sites than you will here.

In reference to your post located here.

It's hard to gauge exactly why no-one answered your post. It
could very well be that the person(s) who would have eventually
helped you didn’t notice your post within the past 2-3 days.

Tell you what I have done for you.

I have made your post a "sticky" in the thread. This will ensure
that at least for the next day or two the post will stay at the top
of the queue. I have also posted some of my own personal advice
though, really, when it comes to HT gear, the members usually
have much better recommendations to give than I.

It is our hope you will continue to frequent Home Theater Forum.

Hi Enoch. Not sure how much I can help but I'll give it a shot. If I were you, I'd go to NexTag - Compare Prices Before You Buy and take a look for monitors and av receivers. You didn't mention a price for a receiver or a preference for receiver model(Yamaha,Denon,Onkyo etc). I personally have been looking at a Pioneer VSX-819-K for my living room. It's 7.1 , 110 wpc, 3 HDMI inputs and 1 output, has DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD decoding, just to start. It also has MCACC(auto room calibration) which is very nice. It sells for $299. I'd take some of Rons advice on the monitors as well. But seriously, you can see a lot of different monitors at and receivers at various prices through different vendors at nextag. Good luck!

I almost forgot. If you will be needing HDMI cables(or any other types of cables) as well, go to monoprice.com . They sell quality cables at a very low price.

It's got nothing to do with elitism, if you look through the posts on the forum you'll see a ton of posts dealing with low budget systems. There are reasons why the other post received more attention, really it was mainly because the other first post was more ridiculous and the first responses were jabs at the lack of specifics.

As for why your post didn't get immediate response, it's a combination of the vagueness of your request (no exact budget given), plus the repetitive nature of the question. There are dozens of threads about budget receivers here & the "basics" section, same recommendations given all the time, sometimes people don't feel like answering the same question for the umpteenth time in the past couple months when the new person could have found his answer looking through a few older threads.

If you posted exact budget limits & what features you are looking for, you'll get help. Generally look at the Onkyo & Yamaha lines from this year, also note that it's not *required* that you replace your existing receiver. You can hook up your sources with HDMI to the display and optical to your old receiver. Even if you get Blu-ray you can use get an analog out model to connect to the old receiver for access to the newer codecs.

Also, you probably want to ask for TV recs with a separate post in the "displays" section.

Sorry Enoch, not a question of elitism, more a question of misplaced querry. I read the first paragraph of your question and since it was about TV's (something I'm not overly well versed in), I didn't read further as this is generally an audio section of the forum.

Now that I've read the other paragraphs, I've posted an answer aimed at the audio section (i.e. keep your Yamaha RX-V3000 and get either (or both) a blu-ray player that can do the decoding or get a processor add-on).

Thanks to all of you for beginning to steer a newby to the forum to the right places and to word requests in a way they might be better responded to. Now I'll go read all the specifics.
