Re: Prototype-Become anyone!
So a thumbs-up, then? Reviews have been generally favorable, although some have been a bit low (7.5/10) for me to feel comfortable with a purchase.

Re: Prototype-Become anyone!
Just what I needed - another
excellent game! (Thanks John). Prototype drew me in from the very first scene and it provides non-stop action. The NYC sandbox shows how far we've evolved since another winner -
GTA4! I'm having a blast (literally and figuratively).
I agree with John's assessment entirely. It was delivered to me the same day as
Ghostbusters and has single-handedly caused me to shelve GB for the time being.

Not a lot of people are talking about this game.
The side missions are challenging. Especially when you're trying to get gold or platinum in all side missions.
I've only got one gold metal, the rest I have bronze.

Without a doubt - most awesome! I'm not so sure that
Prototype will get completely eclipsed by
Infamous. The latter is a PS3 exclusive and there are a lot of people out there who don't have a PS3. Since you are a PS3 person you probably don't hear as much XBox360 chatter as those of us who have all systems. I have no doubt that
Infamous is also a great game but with so many games on my plate right now I'm going to pass on that one. I much prefer the XBox360 experience to my PS3 and am so heavily invested in XBox360 achievement points that it is my platform of preference. I recently moved the PS3 out of my HT and into a secondary system because I finally found a better Blu-ray player - the new Oppo BDP-83. Don't get me wrong - the PS3 is still a top notch Blu-ray device with some excellent gaming experiences but I tired of the need to turn it on/off via bluetooth and the many system upgrades and other quirks. And I'll be first on line to purchase
God of War III when it comes out next March (hopefully). I probably will also get
Infamous when it comes down in price.
And speaking of side events in
Prototype - I'm guessing that you got the Gold medal for the run up the Empire State Building, right? You are much further into the game than I am and that's the only event I've come across so far. If this old guy can get Silver on the first try then I know that they are just setting me up with this event as a sort of training event, right?

Take care.

Re: Prototype-Become anyone!
I'm starting to get into this one now, after spending maybe 40-50 hours on two consecutive playthroughs of Infamous (Yes, it's that good and you should get it too).
I started really getting into this game last night, when I was in a courtyard disguised as a soldier and decided to start shooting people for no reason. The army got called out, and I took out the strike helicopter by cutting down a tree with my claws and throwing it at the helo. Nice.
The pseudo-stealth element is interesting, although I don't know that it really meshes with the destructive, power fantasy gameplay--why does no one seem to realize that I'm a little different when I pick up a car and start walking around with it held above my head? Odd. Still, the game is growing on me and I'm enjoying it.

Re: Prototype-Become anyone!
One caveat. When you start playing Prototype be sure to save the game often. I ran into a bug last night that caused me to lose about 4 hours of game play. There's an Auto save feature that will activate at certain times (end of missions, collection of important facts, etc.). Last night the game locked up during one such end of mission save and when I rebooted the machine I found that the particular save slot was now labeled "CORRUPTED" and totally unusable. Luckily I had opened a few other Save Slots earlier in the game so I was able to revert to an old save (albeit a few hours and many missions earlier in the game).
Now I use a "double slot" save method, duplicating the latest save in alternating slots so that if disaster strikes again I will only lose a moment or two.
I wonder if this is just an XBox360 issue (which I'm playing on) or also happens on the PS3. The "Corrupted" Slot (#4 if that's important) is still there but not usable. I only had this happen with one other title - Fable 2.

Re: Prototype-Become anyone!
Thanks for the tip, Robert. On certain other titles (like Fallout 3) I've typically kept the last five saves at any given time, just writing over the oldest one each time I make a new save. Hadn't been doing this on Prototype, but I will now.
Incidentally, I'm getting more into this game after each session. Just completed a surprisingly challenging mission trying to collect genetic samples from hive-infested water towers. The hunters were relentless, and often got me close to the point of death, requiring me to fly away and consume a few hapless pedestrians before resuming the fight. And if that didn't happen, the damn water towers would explode on their own because I got too close. I never actually died, but the mission took me quite a while to complete.
