OK, so I have a 1080i Sony KSDR50-XBR1 rear/proj LCD, a Denon 2106 a/v receiver(no HDMI or 7.1 analog inputs), Infinity TSS-750 5.1 surround speakers and a new Samsung BDP3600 Blue Ray.
Up until recently, i have only used the tv's speakers as i had too many other commitments (kids, house, 2 jobs) to occupy my time. Also, I did not think that the 5.1 surround setting on the receiver was anything special.
So, i find some time, download the user manual, make some adjustments. WOW. The Dolby Digital setting and DTS Neo have restored my faith in Home Theatre. What a difference from the "5ch" stereo setting. I recently added a pair of altec-lansing MB Quart floors as my l/r fronts to beef up my sound a touch and plan to use the two extra infinity sats for surround backs.
Here's my question: If I upgrade my receiver to one with HDMI with the new sound codecs, how much of an improvement should i expect in the sound quality from blue rays? from Fios HD programs? Will i hear all those nuances with my current speakers?
BTW: 6th Ave Electronics currently has a "Name your Price" gig going on thru their website. Great deals to be had. I had bids of $599 for a Marantz SR5003 and $$739 for the SR6003 accepted. After some research and sound room time, I like the Marantz.
Is the $140 more for the 6003 worth it for the extra 10 wpc, USB, GUI and upgraded processors?
