If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

Dear Guys:

Some of the little games I play with myself if if you could produce a tv DVD set, what extras would you include if you could get them?

For myself I wish I could have done a Cheers season 1, because I would have liked to have included the following:
bumpers/promos for the episodes from that time
the NBC 1982 Christmas special which was hosted by the Cheers gang in character.
interviews with the actors from Entertainment Tonight and PM Magazine, and something on an early CNN show hosted by Bill Tush
interviews from the various first year Emmy wins on Entertainment Tonight
--something I missed but heard about some sort of special on "Bonds." Other people know about it.

Well. . . that's scrapping the surface.

What kind of shows and extras would you have liked to compile on your wish list?

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

If a show was spun off from a Movie, I'd include it as well as the Series.

If the producer of that series made some obscure Movies or Short-Lived Series of the Same Genre I'd include it as a Bonus (This has been done at least once, The Time Tunnel has the Made-for-TV Movie Time Travelors included in it as a Bonus.)

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

Personally, I would have tackled any of the Trek season sets. Each episode would come with commentary from actors, writers, directors, FX people...doesn't matter who...as long as they were specific to that episode. (Example: Avery Brooks and David Carson on "Emissary" or Roxann Dawson and Ron Moore on "Barge of the Dead.")

Every trailer for upcoming episodes would be included, from the TNG launch promos to the "Next Week" spots. They would have to be the "All New Episode" version, since the repeat ones tended to be slightly different.

Pop up versions like the old VH1 Pop Up Video show pointing out minor flubs, mistakes, cool trivia and anything else that was relevant. (Notice how Denise Crosby waves goodbye as the door closes! This is the only episode of S2 Dr. Pulaski didn't appear in!)

As much vintage promo material as I could find. Interviews, set tours, stills...anything. The TNG cast was on The Joan Rivers Show at one point. That would be on there.

Reproductions of relevant TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly and other magazine covers.

New documentaries based on writing, FX, actors, direction, sets, launch, inception...all in long form and not confined to 15 or 20 minutes. The TNG Compansion spends a great deal of time going into detail on that show.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

Boy, this is a tough one.

For me, I've always been a great fan of commentary tracks, so if any of the actors, writers, directors or producers are available and willing, getting them on the record for the individual episodes, good or bad, is always worth having.

For older shows, the "Next week..." bumpers are a must, same if the original commercial bumpers exist. Watching TZ releases, I also love the "See... over most of these same station" bumpers too. It's a good way to "advertise" for a show that could also be on DVD and possibly increase sales.

If it's a short release, I love what is being done with FKB and including stuff that connects in some way with someone on the show that would NEVER be released in another format. That's always fun to see.

Also, if the rights can be cleared, in any complete series sets, try and include any TV movies based on the show or any reunion specials.

I can only speak in general terms as, even if I am collecting a lot, I feel like my collection is in it's infancy and I'm not enough of an expert to speak on a specific program.

So much TV...

So little money!

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

Cool topic. I'd love to have worked on the SNL season sets (the fun part, not the legal stuff like clearing music and whatnot ).

-Commentaries by the cast, hosts, Lorne Michaels, writers, etc. seem obvious and these people aren't getting any younger. George Carlin could've done commentary on the first episode ever--now that's no longer an option.
-Promos, although I'm not sure how many still exist and whether they feature exclusive content like the ones nowadays do (although I know that they did as of the mid-80s).
-Modern-day and/or vintage interviews.
-The first season especially could've used a documentary, perhaps an hour or so in length, chronicling the genesis of the show and a reflection on its legacy.
-Just for fun, if they can get the rights...maybe a few clips from "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell" for comparison purposes.
-Because SNL has such a rich and "diverse" history of quality to put it mildly...reviews from the period would be a neat feature. For example, I believe it was Time that reviewed the 15th anniversary special, praising the original cast and dissing the then-current crop (now widely considered one of the show's strongest eras) making a remark along the lines of "Who's going to remember Phil Hartman in 15 years?"
-Tributes to deceased cast members.
-Cut dress sketches/alternate versions.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

For the original Star Trek series, I would have liked to have included the bumpers by the SciFi Channel in the late 90's for their "anniversary" remixed edition. The promos are real brief but they were interspersed in the redone episodes---and showed a real frail Deforest Kelly before his passing. They had some great moments.

For the Adam West Batman series, I would have included the Fox Anniversary special where they rebuilt a pseudo-Bat Cave and had all the surviving Bat-Stars show up. And this was in the late-eighties when ALL the Bat Villains were around. I would also include the Vicki special where she had Adam West and a few others around. Also.. The ABC twenty-fifth anniversary special where they had a "tribute" to the Batman show--interspersed with a dance scene on stage set to the Batman theme song -with dancing Bat-Actors and such. Then they would show Bat-Clips with Cesar Romaro and Burgess Meredith in the audience--and they were nearly dying from laughter when seeing and hearing their clips.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

If they let me do it, I'd do it for free. Otherwise they'd go broke trying to clear the goodies I'd want to include on some of them.

As an example, let's start with The Golden Girls:
—Redo seasons 1 and 2 in stereo (the studio's claim that they were mono originally does not wash) and find uncut versions of any edited episodes (only one confirmed as such)
—2003 Lifetime "Reunion" special
—Interviews from the era
—Network and syndication promos
—Outtakes and bloopers
—The 1984 NBC All-Star Special sketch "Miami Nice" with Doris Roberts and Selma Diamond that played a part in inspiring the show
—Video jukebox featuring original background music cues in the clear
—Character crossovers onto Empty Nest, Blossom, and other shows (they actually did an episode of "The John Laroquette Show" about a Golden Girls musical, but that show is owned by WB so they would have to license it)

I'm assuming there would be an eventual separate release of the sole season of Golden Palace, which would also be included for good measure.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

For the "I Dream of Jennie," I would have like to have include a facsimile of the Jennie record that was done in the 60's by Barbara Eden in here Jennie outfit.

It would have been nice for the DVD set to have included a few more commentaries from Barbara Eden, Mr. Daley, and Larry Hagman

Maybe a reproduction of the 60's comic book that was done.

Hmm. I don't know if Mad magazine did an I Dream of Jennie satire.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

For Mission Impossible, which is out on DVD, but had no extras, I would have liked to have included the Mad parody they did, a reproduction of the comic books done in the late sixties, and a copy of the Mission Impossible book done in the eighties.

That text covered it pretty well.

Re: If you could produce "extras" f/tv set?

I know the Gil Gerard Buck Rogers series is out, but a "special edition" edition might be in order--which would have the expanded scenes that were filmed for the TV pilot episode, plus interviews with Gil and other stars from the show.
