Was wondering recently what Dennis Franz was doing.
Just checked.
He doesn't seem to be doing anything.
Not a single IMDB credit since NYPD Blue went off the air.

Re: Dennis Franz - The problem of typecasting

Typecasting may be an issue; however, there may also be another side of the coin.

Based on various articles I've read, Franz really had a close relationship with Milch. Rather than try to develop a similar relationship with another writer/producer, Franz may be biding his time until he has another opportunity to collaborate with Milch.
