Receiver with Assignable Speaker Terminals

I am looking for a receiver that you can assign each speaker terminal as a specific speaker location (i.e. Left, right, center, etc..) The reason for this is I am doing a custom install for someone who wants something a little tricky.

They have a projector going on one wall and a TV going on the wall to the projectors left. So, seating will be changing from one direction to the other. The projector is getting a 7.1 setup which will allow for the speakers to be utilized as a 5.1 setup for the TV on the adjacent wall. I just need an A/V receiver or something else to change which speaker is doing what without having to daisy chain speaker selectors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Receiver with Assignable Speaker Terminals

The easiest way to achieve this would be to get two receivers (a 5.1 and a 7.1) and some speaker switch boxes (ideally infrared so that you can program a logitech remote to automatically switch from Receiver A and B modes.

I don't think such a beast would exist, certainly not at a price point 99% of us could afford. There are plenty of 7.1 receivers available that can have 2 speakers terminals assignable to be in zone 2 or "B" but normally you would feed them to what in one scenario is a "Left" speaker but in another scenario is a "Rear Surround" speaker. Hence the switch box option to prevent twisting wire together and ensuring only one signal at a time.

Boggles the mind as to why you would want to use the TV in 5.1 mode. When I use the TV in my basement (instead of the projector), I set my AV to 7 channel stereo as the surround sound experience isn't needed. If I want surround, I don't use the TV.

Re: Receiver with Assignable Speaker Terminals

I'm with John. This sounds like a problem which needs to be approached from a different direction.

Re: Receiver with Assignable Speaker Terminals

The outputs for some higher end pre-pros are assignable but I don't believe that they are _dynamically_ assignable (i.e. swapping between various listening modes).
