first off i'd like to say...

now if you're still reading lol i need some help with setting up. i'm making a home theater on the cheap for a ps3 with this being the projector: Amazon.com: Epson EX30 3LCD Multimedia Projector, SVGA, 2200 Lumens: Electronics

and these being the speakers: Amazon.com: Logitech 970223-0403 X-540 5.1 Speaker System (Black): Electronics

pretty simple for anyone that's done it before. i just need to know what to hook up to where and with what cables to get everything to work XD

thanks for your help in advance

Re: quick and painless (hopefully) ht project

Really the only way you can hook up the PS3 to this projector is with component video cables. The projector (thankfully) comes with a component video adapter to convert the component signal to VGA. You'll need to pick up a set of PS3 component video cables (I saw some on Amazon for about $16).

The speakers are another issue. They're really designed to be hooked up to a computer - I don't know that there's an adapter that can take the optical out of the PS3 and convert it to a format compatible with the speakers, and you didn't mention if you had a PC in the mix for this. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this, because I can't give you a definitive yes or no on how/if these will work.

In all honesty, I think you're making a lot of quality concessions early on that aren't really going to get you anywhere in the future. These elements are "dead ends" in the sense that when the time comes to improve your setup, you're likely to have to start over from scratch. The speakers can't be upgraded individually since they all plug into the subwoofer module. Lack of HDMI support on the projector (one designed for laptops, not home theater) is going to limit your ability to fully enjoy the benefits of Blu-Ray and 1080p HD.

Of course, I may be over complicating things (it wouldn't be the first time) and if you're OK with a system for "now" rather than a system for "later", then that's fine, too.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and I hope you enjoy your system once you get it all hooked up and running.

Re: quick and painless (hopefully) ht project

thanks for the reply jason

this is definately a system for "now" lol and no pc is involved. it's just gonna be the projector, speakers, and ps3. if the speakers aren't going to be compatible (if someone could confirm that) could someone recommend a cheap system that would be? keyword: cheap lol
