Any news on season 6? With only two seasons left,I was hoping Paramount would fast track the releases, like they've done with just about every other show(Frasier,Cheers,Andy Griffith Show,Gome Pyle,Wings,The Odd Couple, etc).Obviously not.I hope this series hasn't been Taxied.

Re: Family Ties Season 6

My guess is that unless it was an unmitigated sales disaster, we'll see it finished. That seems to be Paramount's policy.

Re: Family Ties Season 6

i would not be surprise to see the 6th season released in the fall or early next year along with 7th season.

Maybe after they complete this series they can released the Hogan Family along with Growing Pains. Growing Pains has been stalled for 5 yrs or so.

Re: Family Ties Season 6

I really, really doubt it was a sales disaster, because seasons 1-5 came out very quickly, one after another. That indicates that they were selling pretty well. Yep--only two more seasons left to release! I want to watch to the end--I recall fondly that last episode when Alex was moving out and seemed indifferent to his Mom's loss, but they ended up having one of the warmest moments of the series. I haven't actually seen the final episode since it originally aired 20 years ago. Looking forward to it!

Pretty soon you're going to have to come up with another term for an abandoned series.

Re: Family Ties Season 6

I have to admit this angers me. I too want the final seasons of Family Ties. Which really isn't saying anything new since I want other show finals as well. Now, I know that there is somebody in our viewing audience that could answer every question any of us could post. I sense there are some hidden employees (or those in the know) WHO KNOW. It's like pulling teeth with a pair of tweezers. How about trying to get a used car salesman to tell you how much he paid for the overinflated used car he's trying to sell you. Lotta sealed lips out there.

Re: Family Ties Season 6

I'm completely confident that FAMILY TIES has not been abandoned. I'd be shocked if we didn't see the next Season before the end of the year or, at the latest, by the end of the first quarter in 2010.

I have the network broadcast of this (I taped it myself, and the Jim Henson Hour that preceded it), so if anything is missing I'll let everybody know.

The worst example of an edited episode on the Family Ties DVD releases, was Part 1 of "It's My Party" on the season 5 set, which was an edited for syndication copy.

I thought they cut a little piece of that episode because of music rights? Not sure, but they were listening to music in that episode.

Well, the runtime in that episode was 22:07, which is more or less the same standard syndicated runtime listed in the CBS Syndication Bible information for the show.

Like I assumed before, isn't music rights the main reason why the show has been abandoned? Wasn't there an episode from the last two seasons where Alex sang a Gershwin tune? Could that be the hold-up?

As apt as CBS/Paramount is to sub out songs I doubt that's the hold-up.  But who knows for sure.  The only thing I can say with certainty is that as it stands right now the show is definitely stalled out in a big way.  Looking into my crystal ball I don't see it on the schedule for next year at all right now.

i was wondering if anyone heard anymore around family ties. I have seasons 1-5 and would love to complete this classic show. I know season 6/7 the show started to drop in the ratings especially with the introduction of Andy.

Are there any news about a release date?

I can tell you for a fact that the show is currently stalled.  Last year it was on the long range CBS/P schedule for a release early this year, but it was taken off the schedule and as of right now it's not coming at all.  Don't know why it was taken off the schedule, but it was.  So bottom line is that it's stalled out just like Rawhide, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Happy Days, and several more.

Gary "things can certainly change and let's hope they do, but for right now Family Ties is no where in sight" O.

CBS/Paramount has their own sweet way of releasing things (or making you wait). I'm not especially worried about it (but I wish they'd move their azzes on this one, and Melrose Place, and also on Dynasty, which done with Paramount logic, still has 5 seasons to go and/or 10 half-season sets. Sheesh!)

I am new to this site. I found it searching google about season 6 of Family Ties.

I saw the final episode on WTBS about 10 years ago, but before that I hadn't seen it since it's original airing. The one thing I am surprised you didn't mention was the curtain call. I remembered that SO vividly. I wish (because I doubt they will) so much that Paramount would include that as an addendum to the final episode or at the very least part of the bonus features.

Anyway, back to the curtain call. If those on this board who love Family Ties and watched the final episode when it aired might recall the curtain call. I found it once on youtube a couple of years ago. To be honest, I haven't checked back in a while so it may no longer be there. It was very exhilarating to see it again. One part I didn't remember was that after the curtain call it had people sharing the affection for Family Ties or at least saying good bye to the show.

Someday, I might start a thread (if there isn't already) to share what the show meant and does mean to them (me). In a nut shell for me, it represented the family I never had (I was raised by a single mother who worked 2nd and 3rd shifts a lot).

One last thought on that last episode. What I recall is I was watching it at home, on my own, bawling my eyes out. Yes, an eighteen year kid being this emotional over a TV show. It meant so much to me.

This show was being released on a regular basis but they stopped at season 5 for reasons unknown - I can't imagine poor sales was a factor. I want to finish out the collection; I never saw the show when it was originally broadcast but caught some re-runs on cable TV and became an instant fan, so much so that I will probably end up shedding a tear or two when I watch the finale.
