Few basic questions

I have a yamaha yht 150 from a few years back and a vizio 32 inch lcd. The yamaha speakers are a huge improvement over the vizio stock so I am quite happy! At the moment it is in my room so only using the center, front R+L and sub. Couple questions though.

There are many presets on the receiver but 5ch stereo and just plain stereo sound the clearest. Now with plain stereo it takes the center out and sounds pretty good. 5ch uses all the speakers but is this ok for my setup?

Is it worth using the center without surround? If so when using 5ch with my setup will this cause any sound problems like sounds missing since it may be trying to send signals to other speakers I do not have hooked up?

Last question is it worth grabbing dig audio cable and sub av wire? I am using regular rca atm for both. Would I notice a difference with my setup?

Thanks guys!

Re: Few basic questions

Most members don't really care for 5 channel stereo but I don't think it's all that bad. And if you lik it, who cares what anyone else thinks. Just make sure you turn off the surrounds in the receivers setup menu and you won't miss anything.

Using a center without the surrounds is perfectly O.K.
It's helpful in anchoring the dialog to the screen.

Both digital coaxial and subwoofer cable is supposed to be 75 ohm (which is digital audio and subwoofer cable as well as the yellow composite cable) but whether you would actually notice a difference I'm not sure of. I've never used analog rca for that purpose.
Monoprice.com
is a good place to buy very good cable at a very good price.
