Any Samsung BDP-2500 owners out there ?

I'm looking for input from owners of this player. I'm considering buying the 2500 for it's excellent upconversion and price. But I've read that it has a lot of problems with it. Is that true? Can you share your experiences with it? Thanks.

Re: Any Samsung BDP-2500 owners out there ?

I have one. It sat in my main system briefly (for less than a couple of mos. while I waited for the Oppo BDP-83) and it now is in the bedroom system I started out with a PS3 in the basement system (to get my feet wet in Blu-Ray) while I was waiting for the Oppo and I got a good deal on the BDP-2500 and figured it would be good in the bedroom if I ever decide to opt for the Netflix option. I've probably only watched a dozen and a half movies on it (mostly Blu-Ray but some DVDs) and no problems. I've read many of the problems may be Netflix streaming. I don't have Netflix so I can't comment.

I think the player is excellent. It would have been nicer if it had level controls for the channels but other than that I can't think of anything else I dislike about the player. If I didn't get a new rec'r (I picked up a Marantz SR-6300) in the bedroom I still could have used it as the old rec'r had level controls on the multi-channel input but my main system pre/pro doesn't.

When I had it in the main system it was on a 100 inch screen with a BenQ W5000 projector and I though it was a bit better on DVD than my Marantz DV9600 which is still really good.

Thanks Phil. I read at AVSforum that a lot of guys are having the player locking up when loading the newest firmware, and problems with some Blu-ray discs.

Re: Any Samsung BDP-2500 owners out there ?

I updated the firmware a few weeks back but have not watched any whole movies yet. I watched a few minutes of Valkyrie (on the Samsung 2500 in the bedroom system) and then watched the movie in the main system. I'll look to see what movies are causing problems and give it a try. I only have a few dozen Blu-Rays.

Unfortunately, you will read about those problems on almost every player thread @ AVS.

I was hoping for more responses. I think I'll take a chance on it. A local store is closing them out at $199. It's either that or wait for the BD60 to drop it's price.

Jim,

Who still has 2500's in stock? I was looking for one but can only find refurbs (and I had bad luck with a factory refurb on my last DVD player).

Re: Any Samsung BDP-2500 owners out there ?

The American TV in Waukesha, WI. had 24 of them a few days ago. It's in the current sale paper for $199 closeout. I'm going to pass on it after doing much more reading about the problems with the 2500.

Thanks. Unfortunately by the time I called them this morning they knew nothing of the special price and quoted $350 list. Sigh. I guess I have to wait for the oppo.
