Twitter prepares stalker-azi TV show (kinda)

When I first read the concept I had to do a double take:

Twitter Plans to Conquer The Tube

Quote:
Twitter has apparently partnered with Reveille productions and Brillstein Entertainment to develop an unscripted series, but very little details about the nature of the series have surfaced. We know that it’s going to be a “competitive TV series” which will “harness Twitter to put players on the trail of celebrities.”

Harness the power of players to put them onto the trail of celebrities? Wait, is twitter deciding that now it has armies of goons.. I wonder how Ashton Kutcher, mr. 2Million or whatever followers, is going to react to the sudden concept of a game show centered around his "followers" literally following him for game show prizes?

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'd think given past history of stalkers, if twitter does move in this direction it's more likely the death of any A-list celebrity ever appearing on twitter.

Maybe they can refine a concept and say "there is no twitter TV show, but all shows can respond to twitter instantaneous reports" etc. or whatever. You'd think some programs could work up and be really interested in tie-ins.. (AI? So You Think You Can Dance? etc.) but uh.. wow does this seem like a bad idea.

Well, you're assuming that the celebrities wouldn't be involved. It seems to me that a more natural path might be something like what Shaquille O'Neal does - basically a game of hide & seek where he tweets hints about his location and gives game tickets to the first person to find him (*). I'm not sure there's a great way to make a show out of that - do you just have the cameras following a pre-selected group on a limited distribution list, follow the celeb on a tour and see who meets up with him at stops, or what?

(*) Note: Description comes from half-read stories, may be garbage.
Jay's Movie Blog - A movie-viewing diary.
Transplanted Life: Sci-fi soap opera about a man placed in a new body, updated two or three times a week.
Trading Post Inn - Another gender-bending soap, with different collaborators writing different points of view.

"What? Since when was this an energy ball...
