Hooking Up a Blu-ray Player

My life was grand until I brought home a new Panasonic BD 55. My home theater system, consisting of a Yamaha receiver, Time Warner cable box and 65 inch Panasonic TV, as well as a Panasonic 35, was great; everything functioned properly for more than a year, with a universal remote connecting all the pieces. Then I started having problems with discs, like Taken, which either didn't load at all or took an exceptionally long time ("Now reading" sign stays on). I figured I would simply swap out the players, and all I did was unplug the old player, plug in the new one, and switch HDMI cords from the old to the new (the other end goes into my Motorola cable box). Now the universal remote doesn't work, and the individual remotes do--except for the fact that the Blu-ray player doesn't even show up on screen; all I get is a big black screen. I tried putting the old player back in, turning of all the power and letting it sit for a minute before plugging it back in, etc. But nothing works. HELP!

This part doesn't make any sense. The "other end of the cable" is plugged into the cable box ??? Or do you mean the "the other cable" is plugged into the cable box.

Typically you want cable box -> receiver HDMI 1 in
BD 55 -> receiver HDMI 2 in
receiver HDMI out -> TV.

State the model # of your Yamaha receiver, and exactly where each cable is plugged into.
