I have that disc too, but it's not good by today's standards which is why Paramount is restoring this technicolor presentation after resolving the legal issues with this title.  Anyhow, you only have to wait three months from now.

So what happened with THE AFRICAN QUEEN, and as mentioned in an earlier post, the potential Paramount Centennial Classic editions of Sorry, Wrong Number and Chinatown?

It's a very nice image.  It even looks very good on my projector.  I wonder if the US version will get the cinematographers commentary?

Any reviews of the Chinatown Centennial release ? I am surprised this has gone totally under the radar even with Polanski being in the news recently. Of course it is nothing notable as it comes on the heels of a SE of Chinatown released not too long ago. But I would be curious to see if there is any further improvement in video and audio quality and also how the new extras stack up.

Yeah, I bought the new edition, but I don't have the previous one to compare it to. It compares well with the original DVD release, however, in terms of image quality. As far as the new extras go, the commentary with Towne and Fincher is just so-so: the occasional observation is offered, but there's a lot of padding. Then there is a 90 minute documentary (that I think is new) broken into three parts about the history and present situation of LA and the water it imports. This doesn't have anything to do with the film except by way of background, but it's nonetheless interesting, with Robert Towne going along on some of the interviews. Finally there are the extras that have been available on previous editions.

No doubt all the extras will be on the coming Blu-ray, which will, of course, offer the best image quality yet.

I'm curious as to whether or not Paramount owns the rights to distribute Phillip Lambro's original score.  Seeing the film with it would prove very interesting (Lambro's music is what underscores the film's trailer).
