I don't think he can read - Red Tailed Hawk

On my way in to my nephews ball game tonight I casually looked over one shoulder and found myself less than 6 feet away from this red tailed hawk! Silently cursing I remembered I didn't have a memory card in the D300. So I stopped and quietly pulled out my pack of Sandisks and put one in, slowly. Once in I saw what I feared most, 14 remaining shots. I took a half dozen then started to pull out my pack again when I saw a woman quickly approaching yapping on her cell phone at the top of her lungs. Of course she scared it off, and the tail-feathers you see in the last two frames are the results.

If you look closely you can see feathers in his beak, either he had a songbird for dinner or was preening himself.

I thought the sign on the can ruined the shot, I might try photoshopping that out, but it also adds a bit of irony, don't you think?

I like the sign, Sam. It gives the shot some humor. Beautiful bird, too. I've seen them around our area on golf courses a few times, but never had my camera with me.

As an aside, I read the flickr comments and have no idea what they are referring to (all the deletes). But, I've never been on flickr.

Those comments are from DeleteMeUncensored. You submit a photo to be critiqued and they either trash it or save it. I got two saves before 10 deletes (which is actually pretty good!) so it goes in the delete pile. Those that make it to 10 saves are usually really really good. Because its an uncensored group tho the members like to really be mean sometimes, but this is a good thing because you know there is some truth behind the comments and you get used to having your 'babies' treated roughly =) "That which does not kill me makes me stronger" etc.

Thanks for the explanation, Sam. That makes some sense. I was feeling pretty bad for you, because those comments seemed harsh for your photo.

They berated me for not voting more than on the merits of the photo. Par for the course with cliques like that! =)
