Bose Acoustimass Subwoofer?

I was planning to use the subwoofer from my old Bose Acoustimass II (please hold the laughter) . It's been boxed up for a while since I've been without a 'surround' setup for a while. Now, I have a Yamaha RXV-V565 receiver, and not sure how I should setup the Bose. The receiver (7.1) has a subwoofer pre-out, but the Bose is setup for R/L speaker input. Is it totally worthless? Can I connect it to the surround 'back' speakers, or won't I get any bass out of those channels anyway?

Re: Bose Acoustimass Subwoofer?

It isn't a true sub. It is a bass module that makes up for the lack of any bass from the tiny cube speakers. Sell it on Ebay and use the proceeds to buy a sub. Even a $150 sub from Parts Express will perform better than the Bose.

I agree.
Get rid of it, and get a real subwoofer............

Re: Bose Acoustimass Subwoofer?

The "bass module" you have is not capable of handling the strong, low frequencies delivered through the LFE channel.
Without the satellites that connect to it, it is pretty much worthless.

Not that the satellites actually add any audio value.

Hey man, my Acoustimass set was a significant upgrade from my Kmart single speaker clock radio back in the day! I won't tell you how much I paid for it, though....
