Disney's Zorro, anyone?

Disney just announced the Treasures wave 9 for this year, and it's a doozie for Zorro fans. Only two volumes this time around, Zorro season 1 and Zorro season 2. Here's the good news, all episodes in the original B&W instead of the colorized mess, and the "season 3" specials are bonuses distributed across both volumes. Basically, the entire enchilada in one big shot!

I'm definitely in for both these, but I will be looking for a great discount because those are high prices.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

Disney's ZORRO is just about the most perfect and fun TV show ever produced, from the first episode to the last. Great dashing Zorro in Guy Williams and a steller and funny regular cast, especially Henry Calvin as Sgt Garcia.
Nice use of music,( most regular cast members, even Tornado his horse, have their own theme song) and there some spectacular stunts envolving carriages that were staged by famed stuntman Yakima Canutt.

I hope the episodes will reinstate the, "Walt Disney Studio Presents...Zorro..starring Guy Williams" opening with Williams as Zorro slashing and twirling an animated Z in the air with his sword.

The Nov 3,2009 release would place these two Treasures volumes in play for the deepdiscount 25% off sale. But after the, "now you see it now you don't", mess that was the DR Syn release last Nov, I will be preordering the two ZORRO treasures as soon as they are up for preorder.

Hopefully DD or DVDpacific will have these in the $35 each range.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

AWESOME!!!!

And I was so ready to cave and get the two colorized seasons from Disney Movie Club. It will sting a bit, but oh, you better believe those babies will be under my tree.

Remember, it's not two, but technically three seasons we're getting since the four one house Disneyland Zorro specials will also be included.

Well done, Disney, well done.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

I am very happy about this. I have a set I got off the internet that is ok. I didn't even know it was colorized. I will order these as soon as possible. I'm glad I found this site.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

I bought season 1 from the Disney Club, but will get it again for the season 3 episodes included as extras. Plus season 2 as well. Loved these shows as a kid.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

What will really drive sales of this set,IMHO,would be if they included both versions, black and white, and colour on it. Since the colourizing process has improved immensely since it was originally done, perhaps they can redo the colourization on these sets as well.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

For those who don't have any experience with Treasures, I would strongly urge you to pre-order if this is of interest to you. The Treasures are always limited print runs and they've been getting smaller and smaller with each successive wave. There's really no predicting demand on a given title but, as was the case for Dr. Syn last fall, your purchasing window could be measured in weeks. Regardless, waiting doesn't really buy you anything as prices really don't drop much over time.

Regarding the inclusion of colorized episodes, no thanks. As it stands now, each set will be 6 discs. Doubling that to 12 will drive the price even higher and I think the core audience will just see that as a waste. If folks really want these in color, they can purchase the first two seasons easily enough through other means.

Wow, this is GREAT! I have the European release of the colorized version (because it was all I could get), but I have never seen the b&w original or the hour long episodes. I'm getting these for sure.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

Well that figures... I *just* purchased the last of the S2 DVDs I needed.

But I'll probably double-dip for the BW and extras. I wonder if they'll offer a trade-in program... (yeah, I know, very unlikely... but a guy can wish can't he?)

What wonderful (and unexpected) news!

Far more than one dared hope from Disney for this line and in view of the general slowdown in releases.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

I will definitely be getting these. The fact that these will be released complete and in black and white is a step forward for Disney. But only two Treasures this year? I hope this isn't another attempt at a phasing out of the Treasures series of releases.

Not really, consider this:

Treasures are usually released in four two disc sets with a price point of around 49.99 annually.

This year, it's two six disc sets with a price point of around 69.99, which is roughly equal to what it would be if there were four sets instead of two.

Seems to be all about price points and quantity equality to me.

In DVD maybe. They can always re-do them in Blu-Ray (a perfect opportunity to right past wrongs).

I think not. We may not have as many as in past years, but Disney is not going to kill off a line as long as it makes them money. Treasures do. Besides, Leonard Maltin is seriously invested in this.

Besides, still have to finish Swamp Fox and Elfago Baga, do the People and Places and all the educational shorts. Ain't done yet.

Right. For those who want the colorized versions, they are available elsewhere. Keep this release for the B&W purists, please.

Great News. I'm in for both. With the way these sell out I wouldn't wait for a sale either or you'll end up paying double on e-bay when they are sold out.

Re: Disney's Zorro, anyone?

Anyone unfamiliar with the Disney Treasures line can expect a first class product all the way. This will probably be the best that ZORRO can be done – far better than if it were a Non-Treasures release. Particularly in the “Extra Features” department – a place other studios have been skimping of late .

I, myself, have appeared in a DVD extra for Walt Disney Treasures Chronological Donald Volume Four! Personal bias aside, it was a very informative feature on the Donald Duck of the comic books (I’ve been a freelance scripter for those comic books!), and it opens up a new perspective on Donald for those only familiar with his animated shorts. They did a wonderful job on it.

It’s this extra mile that I’ll be expecting in the Disney Treasures Zorro sets – and that’s why I’ll be there.

And, for the LOST IN SPACE fans among us, there is the presumed first screen meeting between Guy Williams and Jonathan (Dr. Smith) Harris to look forward to.

Yikes- I see what you mean- I went on Amazon and snatched the Annette DVD from MMC, the Hardy Boys from MMC, and Elfago (sp?) and Swamp Fox all from the Treasures series. I had to buy the Disneyland DVD second hand and spent 99.00 for it- I will be pre-ordering this set as soon as it is announced- Hope we will be advised of any cheap prices as well- Regardless, I will be getting Zorro!
