I'm probably going to purchase an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver in the near future, based off many high consumer ratings and home theater magazine's website, but I don't know which speakers I should buy to hook up to it. Does anyone have any reccommendations?

Re: Could I get some help with which speakers I should buy?

Hi Matthew,

I have a few questions to get started....

What is your budget? How many speakers? Do you also need a sub? How big is your room? What are your goals (movies, music, etc)?

Answers to these questions will help us get you started. Then the rest is up to you. You then need to listen to as many speakers as possible.

My budget is pretty small, under 1000, for a 7.1 setup. I do need a sub, and the room is about 12 by 12. I'm looking for compact speakers.

As far as goals go movies and music are definitely my top priority.

check the links in this post.

I'll second the svs package as a high value no-brainer package. but you should listen to other speakers for comparison. i also like cambridge soundworks packages (all but the cheapest one).

HT: Marantz SR8000, PSB Alpha B fronts, Alpha C center, CSW Newton S200 surrounds, Martin Logan Dynamo Sub, Marantz DVD, Sony CRT TV

Stereos include vintage Sony receivers/amps into vintage AR and KEF speakers.
