LG 47LG50 component cable problem

just picked up this tv, and hooked up my cable box no problems via hdmi

hooked up a old dvd player via component cable picture comes on for a second and than displays "no signal" i can hear the audio fine but the video/audio intermitt and tv displays no signal?

am i doing something wrong?

and yes.. i have the tv on component 1

any help guys?

What brand/model of DVD player? Some of them you have to turn on or switch to component input. May have to hook to a composite input first to manipulate the DVD setup menu.
