Hey all.

Need a bit of help.

I'm about to buy my first Next Gen Reciever, Mainly to have the newer Audio formats like TrueHD, etc. Me and my wife want to get a receiver that is going to last awhile, possibly until the next set of audio formats are invented, which hopefully wont be for awhile.

That being said, the main contender right now is the Onkyo TX-SR806. I was looking at the 706 and I know the 806 isn't much different, but well I guess we want to splurge a little. The price difference where I am going to get either one at is only $100, so it's well within our budget.

Reviews for the 806 though constantly mention it NOT being able to do something called Unaltered HDMI Repeating and I'm wondering...what is that exactly? By the sound of it, I would GUESS it means the Reciever CAN NOT pass a HDMI source through it (To a TV?) without basically messing with it in some way first? I admit to not understanding Reciever Tech that much but it seems very baskwards to me that it's actually hard to have a reciever that does this. Logically speaking, I'd think passing a signal through and not messing with it would be easier than passing one through and altering it in some way.

My current reciever is a 604 and though it does have HDMI, it has no Next gen Audio. If a higher end Reciever like the 706 or 806 can't do this unaltered Repeating thing, I'm guessing my 604 can't either so I am already living with not having it.

The HDMI repeating thing seems to be a big issue for alot of buyers of the 806. But I'm just thinking It's probably already something my current reciever can't do and it hasn't bothered me so far...I didn't even know of it's existence till recently, so that fact alone probably wont keep me from the 806...or 706. Just wanted to get some input. Am I right about what it is?
