A little micro-budget DVD company called Dark Maze Studios is putting out Turkish Rambo on 4/24.

Somehow this slipped through my network of spies, so I thought I'd share it with you guys. I am *SO* getting this!

Re: Holy crap! Turkish Rambo on DVD! In THREE days!

I wish more of these Turkish films would get an official release, although most can't do to all the rights issues. I've seen the STAR WARS and THE EXORCIST versions and they are a trip. THE EXORCIST one did get an official release here but the quality is pretty poor.

Yeah, Turkish Star Wars is loaded down with all kinds of music lifted right out of Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Flash Gordon, Battlestar Galactica and Planet of the Apes - so that one will never see release in non-bootleg form. . . well, at least without stripping all the pirated music - and that'll kill 50% of the charm!

Re: Holy crap! Turkish Rambo on DVD! In THREE days!

I saw a Turkish Star Trek on YouTube once. It looked like it was made in the seventies, after a stop in the fifties. Damn, was it bad! They stole about 3 episodes of the original series for its script.
I can only assume the Turkish dont give a damn about US copyrights?

Judging by the existance of Turkish Star Wars, Turkish Jaws, Turkish ET, and Turkish Wizard of Oz, I'm going to guess not. . . .

According to THIS interview, they had to rebuild the soundtrack from scratch since it was wall to wall copyrighted music, and they mention voice actors, so it probably has a dub track. Wether it has the original language track or not, I don't know. (If I had to guess, probably not - I cant imagine that the elements were kept seperate like that. When one had to go, the other probably went too.)

My only hope is they don't camp it up on purpose. Let the ridiculous nature of the film sell itself; don't get crazy with "wacky" dialogue and sound effects.

Re: Holy crap! Turkish Rambo on DVD! In THREE days!

I'd much rather have something illegal than a retracked movie. Considering (from the ones I've seen) most of these movies feature word-for-word and scene-for-scene rips, I'd hate to see the dialogue changed.

I read at another board that back in the day, inside Turkey, they could rip off whatever they wanted. It meant the films would have a hard time playing outside the country but apparently these made good money.

Well, I'll be the one to fall on my sword for you guys. I'l pick it up when it goes on sale and report back how camped up (or not) it is.

Oh - and Turkish Rambo is now up for order on Dark Maze's page. I just finished sending off for my copy, so I'll be sure to report back in a week or so how it is.

Re: Holy crap! Turkish Rambo on DVD! In THREE days!

Aside from all of the copyright entanglements, the bigger problem here is that there was (and is) no such thing as archival standards in Turkey. Some films only exist in twenty to thirty-year-old transfers on videotape, as the original films and negatives were destroyed for their silver content or simply out of neglect.

Thanks! So, is "Seytan" the Turkish word for Satan? I see that it was released on disc by Televista (we all know what that means). I suppose the soundtrack is intact on this one since Televista never seems to worry about rights issues. Looks like it could make a good double-bill with "ABBY".

Re: Holy crap! Turkish Rambo on DVD! In THREE days!

I'll also comment on the "official" DVD of this. I guess you'd call this an official bootleg since Warner would never let this film out there since it ripped their film off and used the same music score. I guess whoever was doing the subtitles just wrote them down on the paper and the makers of the DVD just copied them over without reading what they were working on. There are several times where the guy's notes are put in the subtitles and this leads to some very funny stuff. At one point there's talk of a letter opener and the subtitles include "what's a letter opener". Another funny moment is when the text contains a question mark with an added note to "search Google". When the film is over a "The End" credit pops up and the notes include "finally".

Ohmygawd! I must see this now! A super-bad Turkish Exorcist rip-off with subtitles and the subtitle-transcriber's personal comments and complaints are accidentally included in the subtitles?!?! Hilarious. This sounds like heaven to me.

Purchased and awaiting!
