(Am I allowed to post a press release here to start off the thread? Alright then.)

Zen Buddhist-indie rocker Stuart Davis is launching a new comedy series: Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll. Season One of of this ground-breaking tv show debuts April 26 on HDNet across the U.S. and Canada. Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll is written, directed, and hosted by Stuart Davis, and features edgy humor from the open-hearted maniac. Each episode follows Stu performing stand up comedy, news, sketches, and his acclaimed music. A twisted mind and a sensitive soul, Davis has made a career out of parsing tricky topics, and Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll finds this ‘Punk Monk’ at his multi-faceted best.

“We are excited to welcome Stuart Davis and Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll to HDNet. Stuart is one of a kind, and we are thrilled he is on HDNet.”
-Mark Cuban, President of HDNet

While Davis is a happily hyphenated artist (writer-director-actor-comedian-songwriter), he’s first known for his music. The sound track to Season One of SGR&R (’Songs From The TV Series’) is being released simultaneously with the debut of the tv show. The first single, Twisted Mystery, hits radio in April and is also featured on Showtime in the series I Can’t Believe I’m Still Single. Davis will be touring nationally through the summer to promote the TV series and the new collection of pop songs.

“Davis subtly sneaks religious dialogue into popular culture. Most surprisingly, the music is damn good. Critics, you can sigh with relief.”
-Miami New Times

Filmed in HD in front of a live audience in Boulder, Colorado, SGRR will also have a web-based home at www.sexgodrocknroll.com where fans can find exclusive content for members only. The SGR&R subscription site includes interviews with spiritual figures, unreleased sketches, and regular vlogs from Stu.

“Davis may be the best songwriter you’ve never heard of.”
-Des Moines Register

Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll airs Sundays on HDNet beginning April 26. Check your cable line-up and set your DVRs.

I attended one of the tapings at Immersive Studios in Bouder, CO, and the show has a great flavor. When I attended, the show was designed as an hour-long late-night talk show, with guests on the leading edge of consciousness-related issues, and philosopher Ken Wilber appearing at the end of the episode via laptop or cellphone.

The 60 minute version of the show will be what is released online, but the HDNet version that airs on cable for the next six weeks is a 30 minute version that retains the monologue, the comedy bits, the entertainment, but deletes the interviews. They sacrificed a very good talk show for an excellent entertainment show. Seems fair. I believe HDNet also asked Stuart to add more of his own music.

Though personally I'll be exploring the full length versions online too because I happen to like edgy interviews, I am curious to see how the 30 minute version of the show holds up. I expect it will be just as much fun.

Ok, I know my two days of hype count for nothing, but I found a blog written by someone who hadn't ever heard of the show before but tuned it and liked it!

Hey!

I just discovered this show recently that I think is great. It's called "Sex, God, Rock & Roll With Stuart Davis". The writer, director and star of the show is, you guessed it, Stuart Davis. I had never heard or seen the show but HD Net has some very edgy shows and I decided to DVR it.

It started off with what I can only describe as a beatnick poem for today. Contemporary, creative, and very humorous. It involved sexual and had religious overtones, not for the close minded or devout, to be sure. After he finishes this monologue/poem, he sits down and begins what would be comparable to a one-man Weekend Update. He begins with the topic of sex and goes on about a handful of topics from recent news stories. After sex, he launches into stories about religion and then rock & roll.

Just when you're wondering how he's going to fill in the additional time, a short comedy sketch about iPhone exorcism comes on with Stuart as the iPhone priest. Again, pretty funny and original. Then he breaks out his guitar and launches into a pretty cool, acoustic performance with good vocals. He finishes up the show with another short comedy sketch about a hick farmer asking for donations. It is not to save his farm but viewers can save his animals from being molested by him! Pretty absurd but funny and original for those of you into dark comedy.

I have decided to DVR the series since the first show was very entertaining and original. Stuart Davis is funny, smart, irreverent and very energetic, besides being a damn fine musician and singer. I highly recommend this show to those of you that enjoy cable-style comedy without censorship or regard for hurting anyone's feelings about the title subjects.

Check it out and let me know what you think!
