Universal has finally announced that Law & Order will be coming out this summer. While an exact date hasn't been announced, it is available for pre-order through Amazon:

Finally, Universal is releasing the original series as they should have done in the first place.

Still no release date yet on that linked Amazon.com page above for the seventh season of Law & Order. I'm hoping it will be released before the end of the year (the sixth season was released on Region 1 before the end of 2008).

Does the long wait between DVD season sets of Law & Order (I use the words "season sets" because in the UK a few years ago two episodes from the ninth season were released together on Region 2 DVD) have anything to do with the repeat showings on TNT?

I can't understand why Universal Playback got it slightly wrong with the front cover artwork for the sixth season. Richard Belzer has guest starred on Law & Order as Detective John Munch, but I don't think he appeared until the eighth or ninth season (either the episode "Baby It's You" or "Sideshow: Part 1"). Yet an image of him was used for the Season 6 front cover artwork. Kyle Secor and Andre Braugher from Homicide: Life on the Street appeared in the first Law & Order crossover episode "Charm City", but they only appeared in one episode out of the 23 sixth season episodes. Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt and Jill Hennessy were put on the R2 front cover, which was fine. S. Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston and Steven Hill were on the R1 front cover along with them, but not on the R2 front cover.

I'm hoping that when (or if) the seventh season of Law & Order is announced by Universal for Region 1, that Universal Playback, if they do release the seventh season, get the front cover artwork correct:

Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt, S. Epatha Merkerson

Sam Waterston, Carey Lowell (new cast member) and Steven Hill.

No it doesn't. For some reason, Universal has some personal agenda against the core series. Just about every other series has seen regular releases yet Universal has avoided the core series releases like it was the plague.

I don't think Universal has a "personal agenda" against the show.  SVU is the only L&O series that's gotten released at a decent pace.  We're only up to Season 4 of Criminal Intent.

At long last! The seventh season of Law & Order has been announced by Universal. News was posted on TVShowsOnDVD today. The URL link to the news article is below:

Are TNT still showing repeats of Law & Order all the time? I'm guessing that there have been no replies to this announcement of the Season 7 boxset because people are fed up of the show.

I read somewhere on the web that the look of the show in Season 8, maybe the way it was filmed, was darker. The scenes weren't lit brightly, but appeared darker.

I'm hoping Season 7 will be released in the UK in February or March, and that Universal will not take so long to release Season 8 on Region 1 and bring it out in the second half of 2010.
