Movie ID help

There was a movie--seems like it was the '80s, but may have been the early '90s--where a young (country?) girl was obsessed with Elvis and would write him letters. It culminated with him spending a day with her, and I think he gave her a big teddy bear. As you can imagine, it's hard to find something like that by searching for "elvis teddy bear." And, an IMDb search on characters named "Elvis Presley" didn't seem to find it, either.

I talked to my sister, and she knew what it was. Diane Lane in Touched By Love. I had the details wrong--she doesn't spend a day with Elvis. I also thought it probably wasn't very good, but she said she thought it was great back then. Who knows if it would stand up.

so, your description was an elvis based plot and it wasn't even elvis?

so who was it about if not elvis


here it is.

actually other then spending the day with elvis your description was pretty close.


" This is a real story about young disabled girl who had correspondence with Elvis Presley up to 1963 when she died.

The original broadcast title was "To Elvis with Love" but the name was changed to "Touched By Love" for the reruns.

Yeah, the detail I had wrong was that he didn't actually appear. He did send her a huge teddy bear, though. I didn't know it was a true story. Supposed to be quite a tear jerker.
