Still...the '07 champs took the series from the '08 champs.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

thats why I thought this series would get more airtime on the
sports networks but I guess they still don't care
'bout the Phils.
Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, what more do they have to do.

Yep, we sure do. BTW, game four of that World Series was shown the other day. It was a treat to see it again.
I did find out too by watching it that Papelbon's motion has changed a bit since that time.

You are 100% correct. I was surprised, too. it's not too often you can have the last two defending champs go head-to-head during a regular season.

You'd think the number of World Series victories they've won in the last 9 years would do that on its own.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
Well, I did have fun at my first minor league game, up in Allentown, where the Ironpigs play. I sat behind home plate, for only $10. Very cheap! Fireworks suppose to go off when an IronPig hits a home run, but one ended up being a dud, shooting only smoke. The postgame fireworks was a big disappointment, with no finale. But the turnout for the game was really good.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
Glad you had a good time, Walter. How was the level of play? Not bad, right? Not major leagues...but it's usually fun to watch the kids play their hearts out.I'd have a hard time getting worked up about dud fireworks. It's baseball. What more do you need?

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
i just saw the stupidest thing in a long time today. in extra innings in the Jays/Phillies game, it's tied 3-3 and the Jays score 5 runs in the top of the inning. so many batters hit that their closer, Scott Downs, actually comes up to bat. with the score 8-3, i'd tell my closer not to swing. during the first 3 pitches he does that 'batter twitch' where he acts like he revs up for a swing as the ball approaches the plate and then cuts short to take the pitch. i'm thinking 'why is he even doing that when everyone knows he's taking?' sure enough, he slaps at the next pitch, grounds it to the SS, and TWISTS HIS ANKLE coming out of the batters box. he was hobble-running to 1st base. i couldn't believe it. they had to bring in another pitcher. now, i was at the gym so i had no audio so i've no idea what the commentators were saying, and i can't read anything on the recaps at si.com or espn.com. but Downs is lucky he doesn't play in NY or Boston."now, if that's a fact, tell me... am i lying?"

Only from 1804 to 1814. Not much of an Empire.
Frezon keeps telling me to go see some Boise Hawks games. I dunno....talk about losers. The Hawks are the farm club for the Chicago Cubs.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
I'm hearing Downs may end up on the DL.The Angels have lost Scot Shields for the season. He has not been nearly as effective as he has in past seasons, so hopefully it was just a physical problem that can now be corrected. Still, after the amount he was used for the past few years I guess it was only a matter of time before he started to break down. As usual, I think they need to make a move but I wonder if they will.

Yet an empire nevertheless. I happened to be researching events of 1809 recently...and was struck by Napoleon's reach.

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
Yesterday they were talking on WEEI about the Red Sox planning to trade Takashi Saito for Hank Blalock, which got nixed when one of Blalock's current teammates got injured.Every year, it seems that one team's bullpen really clicks. That team always goes deep into the postseason. WHY WOULD YOU MESS WITH THE BEST BULLPEN IN THE MAJORS?!?!?!

^^^I too would leave the bullpen alone for this year. Matsuzaka, on the other hand....

Re: 2009 MLB Thread
As much as the Sox need a shortstop, and as deep as they are with pitching, I fail to see the upside of trading away good, live arms. It would have to be a really good position player...There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Re: 2009 MLB Thread
Mike,Do you think they really need a shortstop? I know the media has been saying this, but with Lowrie, Green, and Lugo, I don't think they are all that bad at the position. (And yes, I know about Green's errors in recent weeks.)
I've been impressed with Green's arm on occasion, and his bat hasn't been all that bad. Lugo? I don't know. And I don't know how Lowrie will come back from his surgery.
Is Petrocelli still available?

Ooops. I see he is only batting .229 at this point. But he's also on a different team than where he was the past two seasons (.301 & .281). I dunno. I thought he was still getting it done.
He batted .294 with the Sox during the second half of '04. Maybe he just needs to be on a good team...
