can I connect more than one speaker on the same receiver speaker connection?

I have a 7.1 system but would like to have talking in the rear center as well as the front center. I'm thinking that would disrupt a transistor if I hook both speakers to the front center. Any thoughts??

you can hook it up like that.

i don't think you will like the effect. kinda defeats the purpose of having a surround system.

Yeah. Generally speaking you want the voices anchored to the screen, so that they seem to be coming from the where the image is. Having the voices come from directly behind you would just be odd - like having dinner with a ventriloquist. The surround channels are designed to carry music, sound effects and "atmosphere", not the main dialogue.

If you connect them in parallel and lower the nominal impedance below what the receiver can handle it will either send it into protection mode (won't play) or it will release the magic smoke. Once the magic smoke has been let out of a piece of electronic equipment you know how difficult it is to get back in.

And I agree with Brandon, you don't want voices behind you.

If you need to connect two speakers to the same amplifier output, you should connect them in series. This way the total impedance is not less than either of the two and burning out the amp or disrupting a transistor is no more likely than using one speaker.

A third speaker, if desired, may be connected in parallel with one of the first two. A fourth speaker, if desired, may be connected in parallel with the second.
