EPSON 6500 PROJECTOR DISTANCE??

I am constructing a new theater room and I have an Espon 6500 and a 120 inch screen.

When I went to one site it recommends that i set the projector 16 feet from the screen.

When I went to Epsons site it asks for two things

TELE - In this mode it suggests 25 feet from the screen

WIDE - In this mode it suggests 12 feet from the screen

Aspect ratio is 16:9

I dont quite understand the difference between the two modes

My room will be 22 feet long and I will be using the projector for cable TV and Movies.

Which mode will I use and how far should I ceiling mount te projector from the Screen.

16' would be correct for a throw to 120". You might want to test at 100" just to see how much better the image is.

Where did you get the distance of 16 feet?

Thats what I planned for but when I contact technical support at Epson two people have told me 12 feet.

I get the feeling they are going from a script and don't really know what they are talking about

The reason Epson is stating 12' is they know you will get a much better image at that distance with a 90" picture. You will need a lot more projector if you want to fill your 120" screen.

Hogwash. Many members at avs are using the 6500 with screens larger than 120" and throws greater than 16' (one member is throwing a 133" screen from 20', for example).

If you look at the throw distance at projectorcentral, 120" is right at the sweet spot for a 16' throw.
