But if you local Borders is dropping media (CDs and DVDs) like several in my area are, you may already be getting 50% off all media through April 20th.Still, I'll use this for a book for my son.

News Flash:Some Borders are going 75% off starting April 7. I saw the flyer being prepared at my local store yesterday. I don't know if this applies to all Borders, or just the ones dropping media, but it is happening at some of them.
Tell me this price isn't better than anything you can find on Amazon.

This all seems so desperate on Borders part.I think their problem stems from these endless coupons.
They trained their customers to never go there without a coupon. You can't just visit them & see reasonable prices. You have to wait for a coupon to be emailed & then rush over there that day or the next to use it.
I have lots of favorite stores (online & B&M) that I frequent. However, I simply quit frequenting Borders because I don't have time to fool with all these coupons and I knew that without it, it wasn't worth even looking.
If they would just have reasonable prices year round, people would enjoy stopping in occasionally.

The 75% starting this Tuesday at some Borders is not a coupon. It's for everybody that walks in the store.
But I agree that if they offered competitive prices all along, they wouldn't be suddenly slashing everything to a fire price sale in a desperate attempt to bring in revenue.

Do you know if the 75% off is going to be for the clearance DVDs? If so, I'll be able to pick up season sets of All in The Family for $7.50!

Can we just continue to use that one since this topic has a specific 40% title and also because there is now 3 topics discussing the same things, (the closeout sale included).

I can't confirm what media is included. The email just came out and it seems to suggest selected items, so it's not part of the clearance, but I'd have to stop by the store to see if the clearance rate of 50% off has also gone up to 75% off. Or just call your local store. They can't hold stuff for you on clearance, but you can find out if they have it and if it's part of the sale.

Just a heads-up: there are at least two Borders stores in the Atlanta area I checked out yesterday who have already completely pulled their remaining stock of clearance DVD's, BD's, and CD's. Other stores in other markets may be doing the same thing, so call ahead to your local Borders before you go to see if they still have any clearance stuff still in stock.

The Cumberland Atlanta store doesn't even discount all of their DVDs and the ones that are discounted are 40%.

I also live in Georgia, and the Borders I went to in Austell on Monday had 40% off all their DVDs, CDs (and apparently Blu-Rays too since there was a 40%-off sign on the Blu-ray rack, even though there was no mention of Blu-rays printed on the sign itself).

Stopped into a local store (metro Detroit) on Tuesday afternoon. They had tagged certain discs at 40% off...certainly not everything. Seasons of The Simpsons were on sale, but not The Office, for instance. Some BD's, not all. I didn't even bother to look at the regular DVD's. I didn't notice any signage by the CD's, however.

At the store in my area, the "select DVDs and CDs" was easily 80% of all their DVDs, Blu-rays and CDs so it's not like a few select items.

Just went to my Borders and the 50% Off was still just the titles from last time meaning nothing new was added. I did go on and pick up TCM for $15. I also carried around the DIRTY HARRY COLLECTION, which would have been $65 but I put it back in hopes that a bigger sale will happen.

Yeah, TEXAS CHAINSAW. I'm not expecting too much PQ wise but I am interested in seeing how much of one there actually is. I also heard the audio was corrected on the Blu so that gave me another reason to upgrade.

We went to our local Borders this past weekend and their "clearance" had just gone to 50%. It was a very small portion of the CD & DVD inventory, though, and little that I wanted. It's only on the "red tagged" merchandise which seemed quite random. S2 of CSI, but none of the other seasons? One box set of Family Guy, but not the other? Very strange. I asked the lady at checkout about the clearance that didn't seem to be and she said they were NOT getting rid of all CD & DVD media, just making the areas smaller and getting rid of certain things that weren't selling well (so in future I can buy all CSI seasons except season two?). Frankly, selling at MSRP I don't see how anything sells well, and she agreed with that as well, but gave the speech about employees having to handle the merchandise so it has to cost more, etc. If I remember correctly I can go online to Borders.com and buy things cheaper and have it shipped to the store free for pickup. The same people have to "handle" the merchandise, and while they don't have to put the items on the shelf, they do have to hold them for me until I pick it up. Now I've paid less for my order, the local store itself gets nothing from me, and it's employees have to handle/hold onto the items for me. The whole thing is just very odd.

That's unusual. At my local Borders, EVERY CD and DVD and Blu-ray was on clearance sale for 50% off. The only things NOT on clearance were the top 20 items of each that they feature at the front of the store, and will continue to feature. But the sale only lasted about three weeks and was over, because now all the regular media CDs and DVDs have been moved to the one out of five Borders in my area still carrying media.

What Michelle described is how it is our Borders too. It may still be unusual, but maybe not as isolated as you might think.

Right there with you. That's the way the Borders I checked two weeks ago was. Some stuff had red stickers on the spine, some didn't. Really no rhyme or reason as far as I could tell. Some Fox BD's, some Warner BD's, some season sets of The Simpsons or Family Guy...but certainly not everything. Not be format or genre or studio. I may check another one this weekend.

The same to vary by store. One Atlanta store has the stickers on the DVDs (not the cds though) another has all things reduced (with the usual exceptions for both stores) and another store I went to had no inventory of any kind.And there are several other stores in the area that I had not even made it to yet.
