Re: Suggested titles for Warner Archives future selections

After reading many of the posted suggestions, I realized an old favorite from the late '40s was missing - Intruder in the Dust-a William Faulkner adaption of a Southern town and racial problems starring Claude Jarman Jr. and Juano Hernandez.

Re: Suggested titles for Warner Archives future selections

Provided that Warners is not already preparing the Complete Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies for release on Blu Ray, how about releasing some of the previously unreleased cartoons in the Warner Archive?

There are some great Bugs Bunny cartoons that are unreleased (eg. Which is Witch, Bushy Hare). If Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips can see the light of day, how about some of these other classics?

How about finally releasing the "Censored 11" cartoons in the WB Archive prior to retail release? (And wouldn't it be nice if ALL of the cartoon catalog were finally released in chronological sets rather than all of these "Greatest Hits" packages?)

The Joe McDoakes shorts would be nice to see too.

Tim,
I thought Warner already stated that Joe McDoakes shorts will be a part of this program. Take a look at the chat transcript.

I would like to see more rare Warner Bros films from the 1950s and 60s, as these don't run on TCM. Home Before Dark (1958) with Jean Simmons might be nice.

Re: Suggested titles for Warner Archives future selections

Eddie G. films:
Two Seconds
The Sea Wolf (an undisputed classic!)
Hell On Frisco Bay

Cagney films:
Sinner's Holiday
Blonde Crazy
Taxi!
Winner Take All
Hard To Handle
Jimmy The Gent
Boy Meets Girl

As mentioned in earlier posts: Wheeler and Woolsey, particularly the "pre-code" films, leading up to, and including, Cockeyed Cavaliers

All the noirs from MGM, RKO, Allied Artists, and Monogram mentioned in the post by Peter Fitzgerald, particularly interested in reasonable-looking prints of the Monogram noirs.

Re: Suggested titles for Warner Archives future selections

Previously mentioned that I would buy:
DARK OF THE SUN
THE WINDOW
BOY WITH GREEN HAIR
SEA WOLF
HANGING TREE
YOUNG CASSIDY
BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS
CARNY
DADDY'S GONE A-HUNTING (Really tense 1969 thriller)
SINBAD THE SAILOR (What a fun adventure film!)

A few that I don't think weren't mentioned.
SLIM (Pat O'Brien, Henry Fonda - high wire workers)
THE GAZEBO (Glenn Ford, macabre comedy in TROUBLE WITH HARRY vein)
THE EMIGRANTS & THE NEW LAND (Jan Troell's epic Swedish adventure)
TEX AVERY set. Maybe Warner is reluctant to spend money on this for commercial release because not many people outside of animation aficionados recognize the name Tex Avery, while every remembers Looney Tunes. Perhaps the Archives can rescue such a collection.

I got the 1948 KIDNAPPED with Roddy McDowall. This is a pretty cheap film, but it looks great and is a Monogram film. Actually, for a Monogram, it looks like a million bucks! And the transfer is superb. One of the best looking Monogram's I have seen. Also, THE BIG CIRCUS is a Allied Artists release. And I heard the BOMBA films will be offered.

Re: Suggested titles for Warner Archives future selections

"A Pete Smith Speciality" - 1 reel shorts.

"John Paul Jones" (1959) - odd this one with Bette Davis hasn't made it to DVD?

"The Terror" (1963 AIP) - Boris Karloff / Jack Nicholson

Also some of these Saturday Night cult horror and sci-fi classic staples:

"The Green Slime" (1968 MGM)
"The Beast of Hollow Mountain" (1956 UA)
"The Brain Eaters" (1958 AIP)
"From Hell it Came" (1957 Warner/AA)
"Beyond the Time Barrier" (1960 AIP)
"The Face of Marble" (1946 Monogram)
"The Time Travelers" (1964 AIP)

There are many others!

Also is "Caltiki - The Immortal Monster" (1959) an AA film another Warner distribution holding?

And Warner, when will you offer the restored print of "The Best Years of our Lives" (1946) by itself outside of the box set?

Uncut, uncensored Complete Tex Avery MGM & Warners set
Uncut, uncensored "censored eleven"
Uncut, uncensored Tom and Jerry
and since I am a big Jack Benny fan “Horn Blows At Midnight”. On his radio show it was always mentioned.

My vote also for THE HORN BLOWS AT MIDNIGHT, along with GEORGE WASHINGTON SLEPT HERE. Two classics that deserve a release. I am sure the transfers will be better than the LD I still have.
