Dear Warner Brothers
Many people on this forum have expressed disappointment that there are apparently no plans to bring BARRY LYNDON or LOLITA to Blu-ray disc. This is a surprise given the rapid and excellent treatment afforded to the other Kubrick films that you own. I suspect I'm not alone in having assumed that a release of these films was imminent.
Stanley Kubrick's body of work is one of the crown jewels of your catalogue. BARRY LYNDON may not be his most accessible film but it is a work of great visual beauty that garners new admirers by the day. The only way to truly appreciate it in the home environment is in high-definition.
LOLITA is, likewise, a landmark in American film and should be available in the best quality possible.
We know that you pay some attention to this forum and we respectfully ask that you reconsider your plans and complete the collection. Stanley Kubrick's body of work should be kept alive for future generations and this would be the best way of achieving this, as well as being a fitting tribute to (and reminder of) your studio's long association with this master film-maker.

Yeah, thanks for that. That's helpful. Me, I just want any old crap as long as it says Blu-ray on the cover and I can have it next week.

Any and all Kubrick should be in hi-def with excellent transfers. His work deserves nothing less.

Nearly 30% (43/151) of my Blu-rays are Warner titles, including all five Warner released Kubrick films. I will buy Barry Lyndon and Lolita the day of release. I don't particularly care about special features - the films in a quality high-def presentation is all I really need. Please consider them for Blu-ray release. Thanks.

His Lolita is an underappreciated masterpiece. James Mason is utterly extraordinary. It's pretty much my favorite book too, so I'd grab it up immediately.
I'm still slowly warming up to Barry Lyndon, but I'd definitely get the blu-ray. The current DVD doesn't even begin to do it justice.

I was surprised when Warner held off on Lolita and Barry Lyndon while releasing the other five. Not to mention the absence of a box set like what was done for the DVDs.
Barry Lyndon would particularly benefit since MPEG2 compression doesn't exactly handle the darker scenes well, even on the terrific (but non-16x9) '01 remaster.
Hopefully we'll get the remaining two Kubricks instead of a useless Smilebox remaster of 2001.

It's really unfortunate that Warner doesn't have anything planned for these films on blu-ray. They both should be available in HD, especially Barry Lyndon. And it's not like these two are somehow not as good as the other ones? But Warner does read the forum, so if there's enough attention they will notice it.
By the way, which studio has the earlier films, The Killing, Killer's Kiss and Paths of Glory in it's library? It was released by United Artists theatrically, and by MGM on home video. Does that mean it now belongs to Sony, or Warner, or just MGM? These could use a special edition Blu-Ray as well. It's a shame a gem like Paths of Glory doesn't even have bonus material on the dvd.

Yes, of course. But what's the relevance? Warner Brothers say they have no plans to release BARRY LYNDON at all. They didn't say they were waiting to restore it, or that they were waiting until the elements were in place.
This thread is here, hot on the heels of the talk, solely to express our disappointment in this news and to ask them to reconsider. Warners are probably monitoring responses right now and if we get enough POSITIVE support, I believe Warners will hear it and address the situation.
Posts in this thread insulting Warners, disparaging BARRY LYNDON or expressing shrugged-shoulders apathy aren't helpful to this cause are they? They're thread-crapping, plain and simple.
It goes without saying that we want a good transfer. I'm happy to wait if that's the hold-up. Most of us just want to know that it's on the radar somewhere. After all, they mentioned releases that might be with us in 2011. If they're saying there are no plans for BARRY LYNDON or LOLITA on BD, that doesn't bode well for us seeing anything within the next five years.
