marantz home theater bundle with Denon Receiver

I am new to this forum and have spent several hours looking looking through posts. I need some help deciding how to proceed.

We currently have a home theater (very dark room designed just for watching movies/gaming) with a Dell 2200MP projector and a HK receiver. Neither is hi-def and the dell projector is awful (bad colors, poor resolution, etc), the only thing semi decent is watching a DVD, but cable TV is awful. We use a sony DVD player (not hi-def). xbox 360 games are terrible too. Probably because of the low resolution of the projector among other things.

At Costco I saw a bundled deal: marantz VP4001 projector (hdmi) , Denon AVR 689 receiver (hdmi v1.3 video switching), boston acoustics MCS 120 speakers, manual screen, projector mount, 30' HMi cable and a 25' compnent cable - for $1699

We now have digital cable and can switch out our box for a HD digital cable with ease. I would like to be able to watch movies and have my son play xbox 360 games. We don't watch a lot of TV, although perhaps would if we had a better projector.

After much research, it seems that we need a new projector and a new receiver (both hi-def). I have read up on hdmi and the hdmi v1.3 but it's still somewhat confusing.

I guess what I need to know is does that system seem reasonable, good price point? I live in a very rural area and am not able to test out various projectors as no stores within 100 miles. My sister has the exact bundle from costco with the exception that her receiver is a denon avr687 and the one offered now is a avr689. I have seen hers and the gaming, DVD's are wonderful, even TV.

$1800 is my budget so I thought this bundle system could be a good thing. But I'm not sure. It is a 15:9 (WXGA)and I know there are some drawbacks to this configuration and it's not produced anymore. My other option is a Optomo HD71 (offered for $1149 at Costco with a 92" screen). Of course then I'd need a receiver for it and not sure what you'd all recommend. There are so many choices. But again what we do most is watching DVD's 50% of time(not blu-ray and not interested in blu-ray), Xbox games 40% of time, and TV 10% of time. Would watch more TV is picture was better.

Thoughts, comments, help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: marantz home theater bundle with Denon Receiver

sounds like a nice little package to me.

Optomo vs Optoma ? Id try to stay away from this brand...many issues and problems. Marantz is a very solid company.
