Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer Elite 03TXH

I am looking to buy a receiver, and most are telling me buy the Onkyo or Pioneer;

The models are either Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer 03TXH; Can someone help me decide;

Speakers also are being debated, i.e. Kef Q or Paradigm Millenia 200 (Floor standing ones);

My HT room is dedicated, and almost enclosed, so I need some help in this area, also leaning towards Panasonic AE3000 projector, unless anyone can advise otherwise;

Thanks

Re: Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer Elite 03TXH

Welcome to the forum! I don't have all the answers you need , but I think I can give you some direction.

As far as the receivers go, if you are going to be putting the receiver in an enclosed cabinet, pass on the Onkyo 806. It has some heat issues and should be in an open rack or an open area. The 876 is pretty nice but I'm not sure about whether it has any heat problems or not. If your going to spend the money on an 876 , you might want to consider the Pioneer Elite SC-05. The SC-05 and the 876 are about the same price right now and have similar features. I would pick the SC-05 over the 03TXH as it has a much better amp section.

I also was looking at the same receivers to update my system. I have decided on the SC-05 due to the fact that I have a semi enclosed cabinet and really don't trust the 806 or the 876 if heat is an issue. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from others as well where the receivers are concerned. I just thought I'd put in my 2 cents since you were looking at the same receivers I had been considering.

Re: Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer Elite 03TXH

Thanks for your 2cents;

It will be an enclosed cabinet, but will be inserting 2 exhaust fans which I hope will mitigate the hot air;

If I have a HT room approx 14 x 30 would you spend more of your money on the speakers (KEF or Paradigm Millenia) or the reciever?

I am going for the Panasonic AE3000 projector, and will have a PS3 attached; any advise would be good;

Thanks

Re: Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer Elite 03TXH

You should spend more on the speakers than the receiver. Thats all I've heard since I got into home theater. You're better off with some really great speaker and a mid range receiver rather than a really great receiver and some midrange(price wise) speakers. It makes sense.

The AE3000 is a great projector. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with it. The reviews I've read on it have been very good. And, the PS3 would make a very good Blu-ray player. I lot of people swear by them.

You have a nice size room too. Mine is 14 x 26 and it has a nice feel to it. Not too big, not too small. You can easily fit a 106"(diagonal) screen in there. Thats what I use and it works really well. Hope I've been able to help a little.

Thanks Gary for your input;

How about speakers then;

Kef iQ series (9) or Paradigm Mellenia 200?

My budget is $2k (Canadian);

Thanks

Re: Onkyo 806/876 or Pioneer Elite 03TXH

I've not heard either of those speaker brands so I don't have any input on that. However, I do know that speaker choice is a personal thing. What sounds good to me may not sound good to you. You need to listen to both brands. Which ever sounds best to you is what you should go with. Can anyone else help out here? Some other speakers he should consider?
