Receivers as Acoustic amplifiers

Is it possible to use the Phono input to a receiver as an amplifier for an acoustic guitar with a pick-up?

Would the fixed line inputs work?

Should I be extremely glad I asked before I try it?

I have connected my Yamaha keyboard to the microphone input on my Sansui 9090DB receiver and ran it through a pair of Bose 901's the sound that cheep keyboard produced through this system is pretty amazing.

I am sure a electric guitar would also work the same way but the amps used for both guitars and electric keyboards are special pieces of equipment made especially for those instruments.

I might also add that running the keyboard through the microphone setting allows me to jam and play along with music I play on CD. I have suffered no problems with this arrangement on either my receiver or speakers.

I have had a bass guitar and microphone plugged into my Yamaha RX-V995 to jam with cd's. But I used a small Radio Shack mixer and pluged that into the fixed rca's. I would do something like that instead of trying to go direct into a phono or fixed input. I would think that it would be a bad idea to use the phono input.
