New Yamahas--Wait for reviews or don't bother?

So I'm in want of a new receiver and had already settled on a Yamaha, which would be my first non HK receiver since I bought my trusty Sherwood back in 1976 which is still chugging along.

I was ready to buy the 663, but now I see the new line has appeared. Of most interest is the expanded HDMI in the mid-priced models which seems to have caught up with Onkyo and Sony in that regard.

Aside from a mention or two of concern about the weight of the new models being 6 pounds less, it's too early to get any reviews about the new line up.

I've never found professional AV reviews to be very useful, but somehow, I still rarely ever buy anything without researching first...My question is, is it worth waiting for reviews or can I be fairly confident it's going to do what I need it to do without major problems?

I too am eager to see "user" reviews on the new models. I have had a few Yamahas and beeb very pleased with them. I hope they stay true to the past lines.

Hey Carl,

What will you be using your receiver for mainly? Music / Movies ? And what speakers do you have and how efficient are they? And last how big is the room?
