Better set-up then Onkyo HT-S6100 for under $700??

Hey gang - I'm looking for some serious help. I am in the market for a decent audio system for around $700 or less, and I cant really find anything better then the Onkyo Ht-S6100. My living room is about 17'x12', and I really want a receiver capable of handling 2 or more HDMI inputs.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or should I stick with the Onkyo?

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Better set-up then Onkyo HT-S6100 for under $700??

If you must go with Home Theater in a Box (HTiB), Onkyo offers the most features and is generally the best bargain (IMO). Just keep in mind that it is still a HTiB, so don't expect miracles. The speakers will be the weak point in this system.

To take the next step, you will need about $1200-1400. The speakers you can get for that price will be a HUGE improvement.

Part of the reason I like the Onkyo is that it comes with a decent receiver so if I want, I can upgrade the speakers in a few years.

My other option is to get separates and possibly get a nicer receiver with fewer speakers; however, I dont know what I'd get for $700 or less.

You really aren't going to get a nicer receiver with better speakers for $700. Better speakers with a lesser receiver? Sure. But IMHO, unless you are willing to put off a system entirely until you get the $1200-1400 David speaks about, you are better off getting the 6100 and upgrading the speakers later.

Enjoy your system now, enjoy it more later.
