Very happy this is coming out (I have it on laserdisc but will gladly upgrade). This release will also include two documentaries.

Now here's hoping for Chuck Jones' The Phantom Tollbooth, & The Pogo Special

I also hope someday we will see the Gene Deitch cartoons which have never been released in any format. Some people do not like these but I do. Also Gene is still alive and maybe he could lend a commentary

Re: Chuck Jones Theatrical Tom & Jerry Cartooons Comimg in June

Thanks! Details here: Tom and Jerry DVD news: Announcement for Tom and Jerry - The Chuck Jones Collection | TVShowsOnDVD.com

This has the potential to be a T&J set Warner will do right for a change. I don't *think* there is any contentious material to suffer at the hands of the censor's scissors, and the press release does say all shorts are "remastered for this package". They are much-maligned, but I've a soft spot for these lavishly designed cartoons and will definitely be buying.

Now, if only Warner would re-do the Hanna and Barbera shorts...

Re: Chuck Jones Theatrical Tom & Jerry Cartooons Comimg in June

Warner has promoted every Tom and Jerry DVD as being "remastered". Even when the cartoons come from antiquated TV prints. So assume that the "remastered" claim is a crock of shit.

Oh, and Greatest Chases Vol. 2 being "aimed at casual fans looking for an inexpensive collection of these cartoons". The first two Spotlight Collections are 15 bucks at Wal-Mart. The same price as this goddamn new DVD.

Some of these DVD companies don't seem to act according to logic and reason.

Re: Chuck Jones Theatrical Tom & Jerry Cartooons Comimg in June

My real hope was for one final Tom and Jerry set with all the Chuck Jones and Gene Deitch shorts, along with the remaining two Hanna and Barbera shorts that didn’t make it onto the Spotlight Collections and maybe the Spike and Tyke shorts too.

After that, WB could release all the “Greatest Chase” compilations and made for DVD movies they wanted too, and I wouldn’t bat an eye.

But, I’m pleased to get this! Such a large body of unreleased Jones work seems like a natural, and I’m looking forward to it.

I’m afraid, though, that separating the Jones and Deitch shorts severely lessens the chance of the Deitch shorts ever being released. Coupled with Jones’ work, they would have been more marketable than on their own.

Maybe one last “Theatrical T&J Collection” could be squeezed out with Deitch, and the unreleased H-B stuff, Spike and Tyke, and maybe a few other odd MGM’s… but I doubt it.

Grumble, Grumble… Dicky Moe… Grumble, Grumble!

Re: Chuck Jones Theatrical Tom & Jerry Cartooons Comimg in June

I find most Tom & Jerry to be boring outside of a few H-B... and nearly all of the Rembrandt Films shorts. Gene Deitch's productions have this energy and humor that makes them vastly more fun for me. They were made on the cheap, but they're vastly more inventive.

Anyways, I feel bad for the Chuck Jones fans who will pick up this set sight unseen. They're in for a lot of boring and lethargically timed, yet impeccably designed shorts. Can't imagine why they're not including music-only tracks to highlight Dean Elliot's scores.

Tell The Weinstein Company to release Richard Williams' animated masterpiece The Thief and the Cobbler on DVD in Panavision widescreen and uncut! See and hear what you're missing from their Bitsy Award winner of Worst Standard Edition DVD of 2006 on YouTube!

Both the Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones cartoons have been released in Germany, England, France , ... as part of the Tom & Jerry - "The Classic Collection". Jones was on 2 DVDs and Deitch on one. Never released in any format has been the later H & B Tom and Jerrys.

Many people have requested the early H & B Tom & Jerrys to be released unedited and restored as a complete set.

I know the Gene Deitch segments are generally looked down upon but I really like them.

Well once i had hope that WB would get around to giving Tom & Jerry a similar treatment as what LT was getting with the golden collection, but that is not going to happen, we did get a collection of Droopy shorts, and now chuck Jones, so fingers crossed that one day they will go back and redo the HB set as one big release, suggestions, for this is only put Texas tom on the set once. as for the Rembrandt films, some times not what you would consider classic , but they do have an energy and are fun and i would welcome them as well.

been coming to this board for a long time , and iknow some on here are very well aware of my oppinion on the classic MGM toons, and especialy Tom & Jerry. my biggerst fear is that with WB archives we are going to see less collection style sets, i.e. tarzan collection, Wher is the announcement for this years Popeye set, and what is going on with LT. WB does get things but i dont want it spread so thing that things get over looked and passed up. This could have been done in one large nine disc set, the complete thetrical collecton, is all i am saying,
