42" Plasma above electric fireplace

Hello All, Yesterday,my wife and I purchased an electric fireplace. My plan is to mount our 42" Samsung plasma above the fireplace. I have my DVD/Surround system and my cable box, 2 components. The fireplace is not deep enough to place them on top. I was thinking of mounting one on each side of the TV. Is there any shelf system that would allow me to accomplish this??? Thanks!!

Re: 42" Plasma above electric fireplace

If you stroll through home design magazines our watch HGTV you are going to see lots of flat screens mounted above the fireplace mantle. This is because architects positioned the hearth in center of the room. This tends to make it appear as an ideal space to put a flat screen because this is wasted space and most folks put a picture or mirror in that location.

I was faced with the same problem as my existing real fireplace (which I never used) was the ideal and only practical location for my 52" LCD. Since I did not have a mantle I was able to mount the bottom of the TV just above the top of the glass fireplace screen which is 33" high. This is a little bit higher than what is considered the ideal height for a 52" but it is still better than any other location I had in that room.

If I were you I would return the electric fireplace and put your 42" TV in that location at proper viewing height. If you like fake fires buy a DVD with a selection of recorded fireplaces with surround sound.

Or put the electric fireplace in the corner.
