Now those are the kind of waits we like!  Very good news!

That's too bad that it's been delayed for such a long time. For fans of the show, I am glad they are doing it right. I won't be buying it. I'll be too busy with the "Here's Lucy" sets by then. It's a shame they make it sound like it will be available soon and then don't release it until almost a year later. It's bad marketing. Consumers don't like waiting months much less a year.   Anyhow, hope you guys enjoy it when it finally comes out.

Yeah, we're not gonna buy it because it didn't come out this year.  42 years was a tolerable wait, but 43 means "no sale."

Delays happen.  Often.  Could be replication delays, licensing
issues, the opportunity to get more material which puts things
on hold, etc.

Many people on this forum familiar with announced projects
will easily tell you that they don't always happen on schedule.

Heck, some of us are still waiting for releases that were
announced YEARS ago (such as The Bowery Boys, Twilight's
Last Gleaming, etc.).

Honestly...I never thought this show would see the light of day.

I mean, it wasn't a huge success.  Most people don't remember
it.

For me, however, I have been looking for this show for years.
I thought I was only one of the few who did remember it.  Saw
it as a kid -- barely remember any of the episodes -- but I do
recall laughing hard at it.  It was also the first time I became a
fan of Kaye Ballard.  I loved her comedy.  Next to Lucy, I would
put her as my as my favorite slapstick comedienne.

Well, I didn't mean it that way. I'm just not a fan of the show. I was going to pick it up as a casual buy if it was available. But I've since had to pick up some other shows ("The Patty Duke Show", "Fame", "Cagney & Lacey" and "Charles In Charge"). So I have enough things to catch up on. I was just interested in it because it looked funny from the previews. I was going to bump it up and watch it right away. When I saw the lack of news and then the final update, I realized it won't be happening anytime soon. But, like I said, I'm glad for the real fans that it is coming out at some point.

We're all entitled to our own opinions, but I have to laugh here.  On the one hand, people complain when Series X comes out in slipshod cutdown syndication prints.  Then others complain when Series Y doesn't come out within a few weeks of its initial announcement.  Can't you see why operations like MPI and Shout can't win here?

You can't have it both ways.  MPI could have released old video transfers of The Mothers-in-Law and they would have been on the shelves within a few months.  But everyone involved, including the Arnaz estate and the producers of this DVD want to see this through right, because even though the series itself may not be any "I Love Lucy", they respect the talents of everyone involved, from Lucy veterans Desi Arnaz, Bob Carroll and Madelyn Davis to on-screen legends Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard.  In order to do it right with decent-looking full-length transfers, there's lots of work to be done.  While this work is progressing, other bonus material is coming to light to make this project just a little bit special.  If you don't care about The Mothers-in-Law, move on to shows you do care about.  If you do care about The Mothers-in-Law, I think you'll find the wait worthwhile.

Sorry. Didn't mean to turn this into a huge argument. I was just posting my opinion. I think MPI jumped the gun placing previews on the dvds and putting the coverart in the insert of "The Lucy Show". That's all. It's now a fact they were nowhere near putting this release on store shelves.

Robert,

I'm glad you're keeping the thread going, because any discussion of The Mothers-in-Law here on the forum can only help to raise public awareness for  a release I'm really looking forward to.

That's what forums like this are for -- civil arguments and discussions.  Argue away!

Hey, my pleasure.   Maybe you can do that one day for one of my favorite shows.

I have to give credit to the Arnaz/Ball estates (which would be their kids, wouldn't it?)  If it's Lucie and Desi, Jr. making the decisions, apparently they want their parents' legacy done right.  They were willing to spend the money on beautiful restorations of "Here's Lucy," which otherwise might have ended up like its exact contemporary "The Doris Day Show."  Maybe they're doing the same for "The Mothers-in-Law."

Robert,

You certainly did not turn this into a huge argument.

Once you are familiar with how DVD release schedules
work, you become more accepting of the fact that things
happen along the way between announcement and release.

I just think, as others here have suggested, that the
studio is alloting more time to put out a quality product.

I think it's smart of MPI to get the "Mothers In Law" name out there, so the people who remember it will be awaiting the release of the set, and to maybe hook people who have never heard of the show into wanting to buy it.

I think it's even more intelligent of them to delay the final product to give the consumer the best possible quality product they can.

I mean, when we first heard about this, it was just "Season 1". Since that initial rumor, we've been told the complete series is being released at one time.

I'd say that's worth a bit of a wait.

It's a funny, funny show. Having seen a few of them not long ago, I can tell you that it is a show that holds up quite well.

As to the old, why does X come out and why doesn't Y and Z come out. It all comes down to ownership. Any show like this that is independently owned has a much greater chance of a release than shows owned by the major studios. A company like MPI can't get shows from the majors but they can get The Doris Day Show from her, Here's Lucy and Mothers In Law from Lucie Arnaz, the lost Honeymooners from the Gleason estate, and so on. But if a show is owned by CBS/Paramount or Warner, forget it. If they don't release it, it ain't coming out.
