It's really only Jaime that has displayed ugliness for me. Cara has been quite reasonable and stable, especially considering her partner.

I'm predicting Tammy and Victor will win. They seem like the strongest team to me.

Point taken. I agree and I amend my previous statements. Cara is the much nicer of the two but they are competing as a team so Jamie is definitely dragging down her partner.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

Really liked Jen & Kisha, but a couple of really rough legs for them.

I think they had already given up last week after the swimming challenge. Just seemed to lose the will to win and wanted things to end.

It does seem a bit unfair that Tammy and Victor had such a huge advantage, but that's life. Do people expect them to be screened out during auditions just because they speak the language?

Do agree with an earlier poster about how heavily edited things are. But if they're trying to make Luke look bad, there seems to be plenty of footage to choose from. My personal impression of him has nothing to do with him being deaf, it's more that he acts like a bratty ten year old throwing tantrums all the time.

Definitely ties with Jonathan Baker, the guy who always talked down to his wife, for most annoying player ever.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

I personally don't think anything of Tammy and Victor's advantage.

I mean other people are going to be better at doing certain things than other people, it would be impossible to get 12 teams of people together who are all on the exact same playing field skill-wise.

About Luke, I don't look at it as him throwing tantrums, he raises his fists and grunts when he's upset or annoyed but that's how he expresses himself.

Since he can't speak he has to use body language to express emotions sometimes and on a show like this it must be monumentally challenging and stressful for him to try and communicate everything he feels at a given moment.

So what do we have? We have a deaf man trying desperately to express himself and then we have Jaime...what's her excuse?

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

Being deaf does not give Luke an excuse to act the way he has. Yes, there are communication difficulties and in some cases that needs to be conceded. But if you're gonna be all, "I want to prove that deaf people can run this race, I don't need special treatment" you can't use it as a defense ("Calling the deaf guy a bitch was a bad move"--why? What makes it any worse than calling a hearing person that?). Margie fueled the "bitch" fire more than anyone else involved in that whole incident, and Jen/Kisha clearly got over it, while Margie/Luke held a grudge.

Deaf or not, you can't nearly elbow someone in the face trying to grab a clue or shove them with your backpack racing to a taxi.

I'm not going to defend Jaime, but the race is stressful for hearing people as well. I don't see why Luke should get special treatment in that department.

I still couldn't believe Jen had to stop and pee, I agree with everytthing that has been said about it but with your adreniline going should you even have to? Also, I would think you you would be on the dehydrated side and wouldn't have the need.

Jen drank four bottles of water during the Roadblock to help flush down all those fried morsels, then sat in a taxi.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

Regarding Tammy and Victor's perceived advantage in China, what is often overlooked is that the team had to MAKE it to the China legs first in order to have a chance to put their language skills and geographic familiarity to use. It wouldn't have done them any good if they got eliminated during that vampire leg a few episodes ago.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

Very true Mike. And they had to overcome their lack of physical skills in a couple of instances in order to advance.

As an aside, I thought that the sisters did really well in managing to recite the menu orders.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

Yes, I understand that Team China had to make it through to the final six weeks of the show in order to reap any benefit from knowing the language in the China legs. However, when one is designing the various activities for the entire season it's not too much of a stretch to come to the conclusion that if a team with a Chinese heritage is going to be involved then there might be an advantage at what might be considered the most critical junctures of the contest if it involves China. And it's not like China was a short pit stop in the race. It was a major chunk of the trek. Finally, when you come up with a Chinese challenge that clearly involves communicating in Mandarin as a focus you are amplifying the magnitude of any such advantage. To me it's just a poor choice of activities under the (potential) circumstances and could have been thought out better to avoid any controversy.

And I agree that the sisters did a remarkable job with the Chinese restaurant challenge (or at least the editing seems to show this) considering the task involved. In fact, we saw that it was Team China that stumbled on one of the entrees, mistaking "Squid" for "Fish."

In any event, the whole thing was an interesting twist and as it turned out the team that was eliminated can't blame the language on their demise but a poor bladder choice.

Couldn't you say the same thing about giving a swimming challenge to African Americans when that population lacks strong swimmers, historically?

Can't the same thing be said of putting challenges where hearing and communicating are key when one contestant is deaf? Or having the log-stacking challenge in a season when there are two contestants who are shorter than the others? The point of the race is to overcome obstacles any way you can.

See, there isn't a controversy. It was mentioned once, maybe twice, in the episode itself IIRC. Tammy and Victor still mucked up the order challenge before they got it completely right.

Some how I think the waiters were told that after a certain number of times to give them the next clue. Why didn't they show the closed captioning on the time that they supposedly did it correctly? It didn't sound right to me. Although as a disclaimer, I don't speak the language.

Yeah...I kinda had the same feeling. Again, it would be nice to know exactly how many times they had to go back and try again...and how close did they really come?

Nice finale, it looked like Luke & Mom were going to run away with it but he really cracked under pressure. It looked like he was just picking random boards there for a while.

What cute? She was hot!

Yay for Tammy and Victor!

As pleased as I am over the outcome if I had to analyze the final leg I would venture to say that Margie and Luke deserved to take it, they were kicking all kinds of ass there for awhile until Luke got fouled up with the last couple of surf boards.

Now that it's over, revoke Jaime's passport so the rest of the world doesn't have to listen to her lol.

As much as I disliked them, I'll concede that they were really strong racers and dominated the majority of this leg--I think Luke just panicked once Victor (and later Jaime) started the Roadblock and never recovered. I do have to wonder what he was thinking with that skull surfboard though.

Another anticlimatic finish to the Amazing Race. This show needs a recap episode, even if only half an hour. I just feel a big let down after watching all season.

I'd like to know who Luke's judge was and if we'll be seeing her in anything else?

That was niice...

Can someone post a screencap of Jaime, it's right when they go to commercial break in the middle of the pig challenge, and it's just a solo shot of Jaime with hands on hips and a sigh of resignation.

That's the thing: he showed time and again throughout the race that he becomes frustrated way too quickly. Instead of keeping his cool, there's a big meltdown whenever something doesn't go exactly his way. I don't know the complexities of being deaf, but you'd think he would have learned to be under control by now.

Re: The Amazing Race season 14

How old is Luke? Yeah, he got frustrated and really lost it once Victor got there, Victor's presense was like Tiger Woods vs Ernie Els on him. Who knows how we would act, this is a very high pressure situtaion with swings of emotion that few of us have experienced.

Gawd, how the hell does Jamie and Kara get the worst Cab driver in Maui? It's not that big of a place, and the cabbies boss popping off was ridiculous, your stupid cab driver doesn't know where the hell he is going, so you better fuking tell him, and then he needs to get gas?!! All this in a race for a million dollars.....Unreal.

I don't know why the the girls and Tammie/Victor didn't squat down and try and put the bamboo stick on their shoulders and then stand up, if that happened the race would of been more intense.
