need help with eq. compatibility

I have an onkyo tx-806 receiver and a optoma hd71 projector. when I connect the projector to the receiver via hdmi the picture is only colors and lines however if I bypass the receiver (cable box to projector via hdmi) the picture is fine. At first I thought the receiver was the problem, but then I connect the receiver to a tv via hdmi the picture is fine. Now check this out when I connect the projector to the receiver via component video to the picture is fine. I have been going back and fort with this including talking to both equipment manufactures and their pointing the finger at the other one. The hdmi will not work from the receiver to the projector so can the two just not be compatible with hdmi video ? Any suggestions will be appreciated
I need help from the real experts.

hi
you are having a "hand shake" problem.
You need to experiment with turning the devices on, to find out which order will work best for you.

Off the top of my head, I would try the receiver on first, then the display, then the source. Your mileage may vary.
