I use an Onkyo 502, and I've noticed when using the sub with music that has complex patterns, there is subtle but noticeable high end distortion, almost like the receiver is clipping. It only seems to happen on certain frequencies, mostly guitar riffs but sometimes vocals too. When using direct mode or even just setting the sub to no in the receiver, this distortion goes away. I never really noticed this until now, but I've never listened as critically as I do now, so I'm not sure if this is a new thing or it's always been there.
Anyone ever had this happen to them? I've searched around but it seems like a pretty vague issue. Its nothing huge to me since I don't really need the sub for music, but what I'm most concerned about is the receiver feeding the mains with this distortion when watching movies/TV (I've only noticed it so far with music but that doesn't mean it isn't there) and ultimately damaging the crossover network or tweeters. Think this is an easy fix issue that Onkyo would be able to find should I send it in to them, or would it come back doing the same thing? New receiver time maybe?
