Marantz SR 6003, 5003

Does anyone have the Marantz SR-6003 or SR-5003 AV Receiver? Today I read a very positive review on the SR-6003 but I would like your thoughts if you have experience with Marantz receivers. I've read that Marantz has a reputation for excellent audio quality. I do have a nice Yamaha but it doesn't have HDMI inputs. Since I also have a Panasonic BD55 Blu-Ray DVD and a 52 inch Samsung LCD 1080p I want to upgrade to HDMI connections.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Marantz SR 6003, 5003

I put the 5003 into my setup a couple of weeks ago! I am using it as a preamp so I have not listened to as just a receiver. It is replacing an Outlaw 950 which replaced a Yamaha 992.

It sounds better than my 950 did. It has a wider soundfield and there is more detail in my soundstage. I think this is accomplished because of the Audessy setup in my room.

The 5003 does everything I want it to. I have a PS3 for my Blu ray player, so I have the new sound formats coming out LPCM from the PS3 player to the Marantz. By doing this, I can still use the Audessy and matrix my 5.1 signal to 7.1. I do not believe you can do this if you send out the new formats bitstream from your blu ray player.

The Marantz is a great machine. This is my first venture with Marantz products, and I am happy I took the plunge.

Re: Marantz SR 6003, 5003

Here-here, Jeff. I also recently swapped out, for my second unit, a Sherwood RD-6108 A/V receiver in exchange for a Marantz SR7300. Although the Sherwood was a nice receiver which did a good job for me, it was essentially a start-up receiver whereas the Marantz has, for me, a more expansive sound field--not to mention more digital audio and A/V inputs, as well as 6.1 playback and component video switching--which my Sherwood did not have. My Marantz is doing great by me and I truly enjoy having it in my system.

I shall add a new surround back channel speaker, together with a new strip of speaker wire, in the coming days ahead.
